Those that could be available > Berry, Linc, Zorks, Gallop, Answerth.

Ins- Jarrod Berry, Linc McCarthy, Dayne Zorko.

Outs- Sam Marshall, Cody Curtin, James Tunstill.

Conor McKenna is the other likely out if Gallop or Answerth come in, if all 5 come back(unlikely?) who the hell goes out is a dilemma, Kai??

If we lose this one I'll start to ponder the possibility that this is not our year, particularly with some very tough games coming up in the next month eg, Dockers, Suns(A), Swans.

In: Zorko, Berry, McCarthy, Gallop, Answerth,

Out: Curtin, Tunstill, Marshall, Fletcher, Lohmann

The problem we have in our defence is we have too many “offensive” half backs and no “stoppers”.

In offence we need an additional marking forward and while Fages, true to form, stuck by Rayner when Lynchie asked him how he was going to get him going in the pre-match chat, it very much looks like Rayner is the ‘Anti-Lester’ - he’s a player you can NEVER rely on.

Fagan actually needs to make a statement against GWS. Defensive run and effort hasn’t just been a problem this year, but it has been very pronounced. You would have to imagine he has tried every approach open to him as coach in terms of speaking and teaching. It’s now time to show that there are consequences. Drop Fletcher and Lohmann and tell them they get back into the seniors when their tackle numbers go up and stay up.

B: Answerth, Gardiner, Lester
HB: Wilmot, Andrews, Coleman
C: Berry, Dunkley, Reville
HF: McCarthy, Gallop, Cameron
F: Rayner, Morris, Bailey
Foll: Draper, Neale, W. Ashcroft

In: McCluggage, Zorko, L. Ashcroft, Fort, McKenna

This is a much stronger side. Fagan needs to get HARDCORE with this list. We need to see a bit more David Parkin and a bit less ‘Stan the Statistician’ from Fages.

I think with a 10 day break he might squeak in. If not, I’d probably keep Lohmann in and play McCarthy back.

You think Zorko calf might be another week
Answerth and Linc might be cutting it fine and Answerth not played for ages.

So might be Berry and Gallop for (Marshall or Tunstall) and Curtin

I love to put some guys on notice although I watched the VFL :( we not playing that well.
Also so many byes in the VFL crap its crap for 2nds players

You've got double Rayners in the forward line.

Agree with the premise we need a lot of guys back in and an adjustment to shut down the forward hand ball speed that the swans and Geelong are doing

We need two! Fixed. I forgot McKenna. Thanks.

A long way to go obviously and this team has a habit of making us look silly, although I must admit things feel a bit different this year with injuries / form etc not giving me great confidence.

With that in mind, I wonder if later in the year if we are just hovering around wildcard spots whether we’d consider sending any guys in for early surgeries/ on ice etc and maybe costing ourselves a play in spot, but so be it to give them a proper pre season for the first time in 8 years or so.

Guess it would come down to whether the club thought we were any chance of making a genuine run with how the bodies are holding up or whether a proper pre-season would be better for the future.

Hopefully it’s a moot point, but might be something to consider if it’s a reality at say round 20 or so depending where we’re at.

Giants have played some ordinary footy this year but they are still the best team at scoring from their D50 which is our kryptonite. Can imagine that'll give GWS alot of confidence but conversely Fagan and co know what the issues are let's see if they can fix it.

The way they transition the footy is perfectly set up to hurt us. We've struggled with it badly for 3 years outside of the last quarter and a bit of the semi-final in 2024.

Yeah, honestly given our success in the last 7 years of making finals and playing more games than any other team, it wouldn't be that bad to still make finals/wildcard round and go out early. Look at the Swans last year compared to this year after they didn't feature in finals last year.

Yeah their style of play certainly matches up well on us. It does mean those high half/small forwards like Kai, McKenna, Bailey etc need to leave their egos at the airport and focus more on pressure acts / tackling numbers. Goals will come off the back of that, but if our pressure is poor and they’re able to rebound as easily as Geelong were last night we’re no chance.

Realistically I wouldnt be that upset if we had a down year and were able to refresh and come back firing next year off a proper full preseason

For me, we should expect 2-2 to the bye (and hope for 3-1). Regroup at the bye, and prepare to attack the run home.
The 2 games post bye against Sydney & Geelong will tell a lot - but that is 6 weeks away and a long time in footy.
From there it’s 7 games with only really Hawks & Suns as possible contenders (though Pies in the final round could be tricky, particularly if there’s a chance it’s the last time they see some of their old brigade).

At no point do I think the club should be putting the cue in the rack, and if we play finals it’s not over until it’s over.
Nothing to be gained by sending players for surgery early - if we lose in wildcard or elimination final that still an extra month offseason for the boys as compared to previous years.

(Oops, nearly forgot - just taking it 1 week at a time).

i hadn't thought about that match being a potential farewell for players. hopefully pies are entrenched in 10th!

Defenders
Answerth about our only lockdown defender. Return date ? but mentions 2 weeks. Future concussion issues ?
McCarthy being used but he is a natural small forward. Most likely slots back in defense when ready until Answerth plays.

Next, we played Fletcher in a more defensive over attacking role, that's just not his natural game. As such he is struggling.

Reville i see as the closest to playing the Starch/Answerth role.
He would need a settling in period though and that may be unsuccessful. Fletcher to the wing.

Gardiner will need a few games to get back to his usual output.
Andrews a fair bit off his standard game output.
Lester, Zorko, Wilmot and Coleman going fine.

VFL
Not many options to take players from a team on the bottom of the ladder
Brain appears out of the picture but a possibility.
Torrent over the years has played in a few positions including defense. Maybe give him a try as lockdown defender
Anyone else will also have to change positions
.......................

Changes depend on who is available, Berry, Zorko, McCarthy and Gallop
Assuming they are all available

Berry for Marshall
Gallop for Curtin
Zorko for Tunstill
McCarthy for McKenna

Could Fletcher play a tagging forward role. He has pace and aerial which I think are important.

McKenna is the other option but doesn’t have the aerial.

Linc has the pace, aerial and IQ but gives up height.

Fagan won't drop the lazy arrogant players. He didn't last year.

We will still make top 4

The team will turn it on at the right time.
Hope you are right

6-4 is a long way from where we were at last year when we only just made top 4.

I think the one thing we have going for us this year is our last 7 games are either weaker games or gabba games. But given the last 2 at the gabba it feels like another gabba not a fortress year like the last 2...
