VAFA General Discussion

I'm not against it at all but you think the VAFA are going to come to the party?
I mean yeh they won't do shit, folk come to Vafa to be a premier comp, imagine being a top flight club with no chance to redeem yourself in a make up game yet other leagues (country atm) are pushing at least 1 game back.
Harder for clubs out of prem level but you'd be filthy if it's one game out of finals/relegation.

just a ramble but I feel others are feeling the same.

Its unfair but perhaps the best of a bad situation.....rescheduling in metro comps would be impossible. Council booking etc cant be moved.

My understanding is the VAFA was canvassing the clubs views yesterday to determine whether the two missed games could be made up in the bye weekend. They were having a board meeting last night

The clubs did have a say. This policy was tabled at the March members meeting and approved by all clubs.

Was tabled and approved BUT not by all clubs. Exactly the same as the VAFA AGM with the financial report and affiliation fee proposal for the first time under 85% approval - carried in general by the LIFE MEMBERS who have NFI as to how these proposals effect clubs.

Heard an email went out last night with a survey .

That would be ridiculous if true. Chill people (and Vafa if you are sending out surveys) could be 2 weeks off, could be 5. Just relax. Things will work out. We will get a season finished. May be a 13 or 14 round season..but so be it.
Get the vaccine people. Make that call.
Just do it.

Any news on this meeting from last night..?!

That would be a good effort to catch up 2 games in one weekend!

ABC all have 2 weeks off. Just play them , no 19's or 3rds . Promotion grades should take priority .
It will be a month all up at least before we get a game. The last two rounds and the next two. If they give the go ahead to play at the end of this week (doubt it though), the vafa may want a full two weeks of training to lessen chance of injuries before any games are played. That means the first week back will be 26 June. Those games that have missed is to bad, season continues and ends on original dates. But who knows what will happen.

June 19 lock it in

There will be a decent mini pre-season that needs to take place if the season is to recommence on the 26th!
Surely not. Players have the fitness base behind them pre break and should have been doing work in there own time during lockdown. The players who got up and ran every 2nd day will benefit over those who played call of duty. A week of training will be suffice.

I dont think VAFA will allow any further weeks off. If they allow community sport, then the very next Saturday games should be on as per the fixture. PLayers are allowed to exercise in their own time as per the 2 hour rule per day so it should be on the individual to keep fit (as best as possible anyway).
Thats just my opinion anyway but missing out on further games to do a (mini pre season) would be a farce, just let the players play

What will also be interesting will be the various discussions at both club and league level around commercial impacts moving forward. Whilst much of this would have had preliminary discussions last year when we were hoping for a reduced season (start in June), much of it becomes a reality now. In saying that, only two playing weeks have been lost at this point in time, but there is much more to this when you consider how we re-start things.

If you look at the guidelines in Country Vic (and they did not have the community transmission challenges we have faced in metro areas)
AND
the return to training/playing protocols that are in play when we resume, then you could imagine that 'opening up' will be a slow and careful process. As such the impacts on fundraising via canteen, bar, lunches, social events, Thursday meals, after match, etc. will no doubt be impacted .........1 person per 4 sqm anyone?
Will clubs have any challenges from players suggesting a reduction in subs?
Will sponsors still see the same value? (again I am mindful it's only two weeks at this stage, not half a season).
Will fees be reduced - by leagues or councils?
Will costs increase due to cleaning requirements moving forward?
Not to mention in competitions that pay players they will have some interesting conversations coming up if they had not already done so pre-season/contract.

Then you have engagement levels, especially for teams that are less likely to make finals action. This becomes a bigger challenge when you consider the Covid Safe 'environment' all clubs will need to manage for a little while yet, especially when volunteers will be doing the heavy lifting.

Playing ammo footy is enormous fun and one I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to have experienced for many years. But it was about a shared experience with friends, not just the Saturday afternoon, but being at and around the club. With significant changes to that now most likely, clubs will not only need to find ways to keep people safe, but also ways of staying engaged through the next couple of months.

Good luck all and I hope we can all be back playing again soon.

Chump.

While we are all in Lockdown I suggest that you all get a copy of "THE BOYS CLUB" written by Michael Warner. Just recently published. The VAFA get mentioned quite a few times. If half of the content is true it is an unbelievable indictment on the AFL.

Most VAFA clubs may be able to recite incidents about cover ups, bullying and lack of VAFA integrity over the years.

Read it.
