It was with sadness that I read, today, all the rule changes.
Now you may call me old fashioned and not willing to change with the times. You may be right.
But the amount of times the reason for these approved changes was listed as 'to come into line with AFL' was annoying.
The AFL has unlimited resources to implement every fine detail of their trendy rules. More thought should be given to the effect on 'OUR' players and officials rather than bowing to the great and wonderful AFL. Let's face it, there track record on certain social problems has not been too flash lately.
Should we start paying players just because the AFL does?

The change to the centre bounce rules will ultimately force some of the more experienced ruckmen from the game. The skill of being able to manouvre your body and use your strength fairly will now be deemed past it's use by date. Brains and knowledge will give way to young legs that can leap higher than the young legs on the other side of a 10m circle. From an old bloke who very much relied on his bulk and a bit of smarts; SHAME on you VAFA, SHAME.

In fact, ASIO man, this is the greatest rule change of all time. And finally put into place only 28 years after the VFL did the same.

The rule previously in place was a farce and was poorly policed into the bargain. Most convenient for the fat, slow and useless to hide behind and basically do anything they wanted to their opponent, knowing full well they'd get away with it even if they never had eyes for the ball!

From next season if you want to win at the centre bounce you might actually have to have some sort of skill in the art of ruck play. Or at least be able to get off the ground.....

In other words, more Simon Maddens, less John Nichollses, and North Brunswick are desperately looking for a new ruckman!

As a Ruck Men who can play both styles (Jumping, Bodying) with some degree of success I am not particularly concerned with this rule change.

However I do find it strange that the VAFA has taken so long to implement the new rule.

Went to a meeting not long ago and Sholly talked about the new changes. He said that when they were implemented 2 years ago the VAFA went and asked for a 2 year lay off to implement them with the thought that the AFL would change their minds and let local leagues keep old rules. But instead the AFL have insisted that all local leagues follow AFL rules.

Fat, slow and useless players everywhere. The notice has been posted. Time for us to move on to Veteran Footy or risk the coming 'SOYLENT GREEN' policy.
