A perfect middle school/high school companion through rock music. Audioslave in particular were one of my favourite bands at the time. Coming off the back of Pearl Jam's fan-making Rearviewmirror and having just turned 16, Out of Exile was a special release to me at the time, and I also listened to S/T and Revelations loads (the latter coming out shortly before my high school exams from memory). Their disbanding in 2008 was saddening to me at the time (even if I had largely left them behind by that point), in fact, some of my first Bigfooty posts may have been in a thread on that topic.

Something I'll never forget is walking out of Casino Royale at the Randwick Ritz one December morning in 2006 and feeling like a total boss. Not uncommon after a Bond film, but I felt bulletproof in that moment. His song is my favourite Bond song of the century, without a doubt.

Deeply saddening loss, particularly in the agonising nature of his departure. He will be missed, and gave us so much. Will never forget the anecdote of his severe depression as a teen and stumbling upon the Beatles catalogue which brought him back to the light and into music. Will certainly listen back to his catalogue for old time's sake tomorrow, particularly Out of Exile.

For all the praise the debut Audioslave album gets, Out of Exile deserves it more. Be Yourself had me, a grown man, sobbing on my way into uni today.

Rage special tonight
"Tonight from 12:21, to honour the legacy of Chris Cornell we’ll be playing everything we’ve got from Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple Of The Dog, and his solo stuff – as well as some vintage hostings from when Audioslave hosted Rage, interviews, and live performances."

It has taken a few days for this news to settle for me, Soundgarden were my favourite band in high school but back then he wasn't as popular as he is now. It seems his legacy really grew in the last 10 years, I think his acoustic stuff and covers of 'Bilie Jean' won over a lot of fans and admires also to go with Soundgardens strong reputation for being a live band.

As for favourite songs? apart from the obvious ones "fresh tendrils" was always a favourite of mine and i think its one of his best vocal performances, When i heard of his death and went for a drive later i put spotify on shuffle and the first Soundgarden song that got played was that...

He had the voice, played guitar and could right a song. He was one of a kind.

Some pretty amazing tributes going around on youtube as well.

there's footage on youtube of his final gig. it does match up to the reviews that had said he wasn't there mentally, not a very crisp, tight performance. sad.
Took two many anti anxiety pills.
I've been there, you mix meds with a few beers and you feel lower than low, worst feeling in the World.

Once again drugs claim another, look outside farkers ramsacking houses ,stealing from shops, drugs.

God created us.....

Had an overtime computer day at work today, so relistened to all my Audioslave albums (which I've only revisited a few times since they disbanded). Was surprised with how emotional it was going back, so so much can be read into those lyrics. So many memorable times associated with that music flooded back, it really does stay with you. Each of the three albums is very different, but unmistakably Audioslave, and if you can still stomach Rubin/O'Brien hard rock for what it is, these are all minor classics of that unfairly maligned type. Self-titled remains my least favourite but I still love it. But I'll no doubt have Out of Exile and Revelations back on heavy rotation in coming months.

Many of those end album tracks such as The Curse and Moth are now going to attain classic status as a result one would suspect. Listening back to all those lyrics and distinctive howls and screams is a deeply emotional experience. Really brings me back to mid 00's eagles, underage drinking, etc.

And I'm just talking Audioslave here, let alone Soundgarden and solo.

Cory Taylor has done some really nice tributes at the festival Soundgarden were meant to be headlining, firstly with Stone Sour covered Outshined then did Hunger Strike and Wish you were here on the next night.

Still hasnt really hit home yet.
The first album of Soundgarden I got was Ultramega Ok. I was browsing at Verandah Records in Adelaide when I saw the album after just reading a review about it in a metal mag. So I bought it, cost me a penny as it was imported at the time.
No one had heard of them at that point, and Ultramega was not a mainstream type album by any means. Then the monster that was Bad Motor Finger came out and they became big time.
The best Chris Cornell album is by far Temple of the dog.

I was at Soundgarden's first Aussie gig in jan 1994. It was at Selinas in Coogee. I was barely 17 and took a punt that I would get in. They were seriously carding blokes with beards but somehow the bouncers must have blinked as I walked in.
Anyway, looking at the setlist online, the night has come back to me like it was last week. It was about 6 weeks before Superunknown was released.
I remember getting crushed, lots of sweat and Cornell's chainsaw like wail. What a voice.
I felt like a man in the pub that night, that is until the gig was over and I went outside to the phone booth and called mum to pick me up.
Rest in peace.

Nothing can beat the debut album imo, just pure rock. There is not a s**t song on it

Both Out of Exile and Revelations are great albums though, pumping some out of exile tonight. great album

RIP CHRIS
