Australian world featherweight champion Johnny Famechon has died aged 77.

Fammo won the Australian title in 1964, the Commonwealth title in 1967 and the world title in 1969.

He retired in 1970 at the age of 25 after losing the world title.

Met the bloke (and his manager), albeit very briefly when his Ford Fairlane (true) stalled at an intersection on St Kilda road in the late 1960's, and me and a mate helped them push it out of harm's way.
Very quiet, shy bloke who didn't say a lot, and I can still recall his manager asking us if we knew who he was.

Yeah mate, we knew!
