GEELONG Football Club leaders have pointed to an extraordinary six-decade demonstration of devotion and dependability after the loss of former premiership player and president Ron Hovey.

Mr Hovey played for his club in premiership triumphs, skippered his club in following years, was an enduring president through a challenging era and remained forever ardent and involved.

A wave of lament followed the death of the club great and family man after his death on Tuesday at 82.

There wouldn't be many who have served the club for six decades like Ron.

To have played in the only other era to rival the 070911 , to have debuted in in a flag side and then play in a back to back , to participate in that run of 26 ... would make him one of best ever players . Who in our current era would have been close to that. Joel , if we had not fallen short in 08?
Then to go and serve the club for decades , Ron Hovey must go down as one of the greatest names at our club.

RIP Ron Hovey

Ablett senior should be one of those paying tribute. Hovey not only employed him but was his shoulder to cry on.

A genuine true blue Cat who put his money and time into the club he loved. Sad we don't have more Hovey's. The club would be much the better for it.
