Just looking at the value of the cats lately in terms of where they were drafted or what they were traded for to what they are now.

Cameron Ling (drafted pick 38 in 99)
- Was recurited as fat full foward now a fit running midfielder worth more than pick 38 in the trade market

Paul Chapman (drafted pick 31 in 99)
- Struggled early now one of the most consistent players in the Afl. A tough and skillful dangerous foward worth alot higher than 31 in the trade market

Corey Enright (drafted pick 47 in 99)
- Before injured was in line for b&f and all australian honours. Always showed however was neally traded last year. Worth alot more than 47 and alot than we would have got for him last year

Josh Hunt (drafted pick 44 in 00)
- What a kick. Finally come on in the last two years to now be worth moree than pickk 44 in the trade market

Darren Milburn (drafted pick 48 in 95)
- Most consistent player going around. Can play anywhere and in contention for all australian. Would not be traded cause of age and influence at club but worthy of alot higher than pick 48 in todays trade market

Matthew Scarlett (drafted pick 45 in 97) and Gary Ablett (drafted pick 40 in 01)
- Both father son so unable to really see what they were worth but now both would be traded for 2 first round draft picks

Tom Harley (traded for pick 37 in 98)
- Now a great defender but has been injured. Would probably get first round draft picks if he was traded but is untouchable

Other include
David Wojenski(drafted pick 24 in 98), James Kelly(drafted pick 17 in 01), Steve Johnson(drafted pick 24 in o1), David Johnson(drafted pick 81 in 01), Charlie Gardiner(drafted pick 23 in 01), Kent Kingsley(traded for pick 42 in 00) and Brenton Sanderson(traded for pick 47 in 94)

I still think we need a TOPLINE midfielder. One that has pace, great skills and can find it.

Like Cameron Ling, Joel Corey, James Bartel??? Other teams would drool at the prospect of having any of those players. They are great midfielders.

That is the least of our worries. We have a great midfield. We need another option up forward, just wait until Nathan Ablett Developes along with Tom Hawkin (when we draft him). The best is yet to come. A premiership is just around the corner.

We are just warming up and over the next 3-4 seasons we will be in the hunt come the last week of September.

GO CATS!

I totally agree with you scotty. While there is no doubting our first choice midfielders are good/very good players (Bartel, Corey, Ling & Kelly) none of them have genuine pace nor fantastic skills.

Just warming up?

We can't play more than 4 good quarters of footy a fortnight. We are inconsistent, disinterested and lazy. The list is good, but the application has disappeared. I am very worried about the team, the coach and our prospects this year. I can see us going the way of the Demons from here.

We can say year after year that we need another forward. Look at the top of the ladder:

West Coast have Lynch, Matera and Hansen as their main forwards.

Adelaide have Scott welsh and McGregor. Good players but hardly Jon Brown good.

We have a pretty handy forward line. 10 rounds in we were the heaviest scoring team in the league. Since then the midfield are cruising and we aren't kicking goals.

This year should have been our year. We have wasted it.

Point taken. I think we will agree to disagree.

We were the heaviest scoring team in the league in the early rounds of the year. Round 1 v Richmond was the perfect example of this and i have not seen geelong play that well for a long time, however the reason we were scoring so freely was because he had a full list of forwards.

If our full list of forwards and key position players were available then i would have to aggree with you 100%, however when our number one side is not on the field i think that our second and third options are not up to AFL standards. Take Lonegan for example. Great prospect but not really up to AFL level at this stage.

Ottens holds the key to our hopes. Since Ottens has been missing, we have really struggled, hence the reason i think our best is yet to come in the upcoming years when King/Chambers can work through the ruck and leave ottens one out in the goal sqaure.

Also, Kent is a good footballer with great talents but he is not a a full forward or the number one option. He is a great second or third tall who would be a fantastic half forward flank as he has pace to burn.

A premier forward such as the G-Train, Lloyd or even a Bradshaw would mean our midfield could deliver the ball to a one grab marking forward rather than having to put it out in front of kingsly on the lead. He struggles over head and out in front yet is fantastic on the lead or on the chest.

I honestly think that our midfield is really good and in the next few years our team will blossom and gell together. I just really hope Nathan Ablett developes as we all hope (fingers crossed). He is a SUPER talent but it is a matter of whether he actually wants to make it. From the body language i have seen, i dont think will be around for too long.

Not sure if you would agree with any of that but i think we will both agree that Geelong will be a force in the next few years which will a great chance to steal a flag.

GO CATS!

People people people...dont get off the ctas remember it is still only july. you want to be playing your best football in september. look at melbourne they have peaked and now they are gone. the best of the cats is still to come and september is still a big hope for geelong. stay on board we dont leave victoria again and these next weeks is all about getting injured players back and getting them match fit then they will be right for the crack at the big cup

Spot on. The single biggest problem I see is that some of the young players (Ablett, Kelly, Bartel) are in a comfort zone. They know they won't be dropped so they do just enough. Bartel was brilliant against Port but well below par on Saturday. Kelly may as well have not been there. Ablett tried hard but wouldn't man up. It's might be funny for Kelly and Ling to crack jokes about the other on TV but right now they need to worry about getting more of the footy. I can't understand where the hunger, tenacity and desperation from last year went. The only bright spot was Steve Johnson looked better and better the longer the game went. Showed he's got more ability in his little finger than Gardiner, Thurley and Haynes combined.

One week and you are all off the band wagon.

People just need to settle down. Yes Saturday was terrible, and yes the midfield weren't interested and were lazy. But chill out. If they dish it up again on Friday night, then lets consider cutting up the membership cards.

I do agree we need another top line midfielder, he doesn't have to be lightning fast, but he does need to use it well and be a clearance king. There is an old saying " sides who don't have the footy look slow." We didn't have much of the footy, and all we did was semi - chase tail all day. For christs sake even the bombers look quick when they have it, and their midfield is far from quick.

Lets wait until Friday ngiht to see if a committed outfit turns up before we rip the walls of the George and the Dragon.

Trust me - it's not just one week. I've been violently angry ever since the Fremantle loss. Since then our performances have been average at best. They don't have a prayer of having a good September the way they are playing. It's not who we don't have, it's what the players aren't showing - enthusiasm, passion, desperation, commitment. All noticeably absent.
