A series of threads comparing the value picks of each draft coming up from 2000. Unbiasedness is valued but not expected and all are welcome to give their say and vote. Voting closes Saturday 3rd November. Congratulations to Daniel Kerr on winning the 2000 Value Pick.

2001 Value Picks:
Nick DalSanto - 13
Steve Johnson - 24
Sam Mitchell - 36
Leigh Montagna - 37
Ashley Hansen - 38
Dane Swan - 58
Adam Shneider - 60

Dal Santo was a first rounder so I wouldn't call him a value pick as such. Mitchell by a mile though, even if we include Dal Santo.

Hard to go past either Swann or Mitchell. I am stuck between the two but at these stage leaning towards Mitchell, only slightly.

I picked Dane Swan, merely because there were 57 players deemed better than him by other clubs, for him to turn into a player who can get 20-30 disposals easily in a match is amazing, not to mention he has outdone about 50 of those players who were deemed better than him.

With Mitchell I just think it was a good pick but many players picked around the 35 mark usually become average to good players at least anyway.

If hawthorn didnt pick him up he would of fallen to around swans mark, was judged "too unfit and fat" for afl footy in the 2000 draft
Hell, i think we only picked him because he was a box hill boy and the best on offer from them.

Tough call, is Mitchell 22 positions-worth better than Swan? Probably he is at the moment, although Brownlow voting says otherwise.

Mitchell by the barest of margins.

Swan was drafted under age, hence the low draft position. It's just like Tom Collier. He could've been drafted in the same position as Dane Swan (50-60 mark) as he was udner age. Now this draft he's a first round prospect.

Doesn't change the fact how valuable of a pick he is. For him to be a consistently good performer in a top-eight side is not much short of remarkable. By no means am I saying Mitchell wasn't value but I'd have Swann ahead of him as far as value goes simply because he was taken 20 picks later and has shown just as much.

Pretty much exactly what I said.:thumbsu:
