According to some bloke on the main AFL Discussion Board, "He just heard on the radio" that Vanders lost his appeal and is out for four weeks.....:thumbsd:

I'm not even gonna start...........

Oh well - GO THE HAWKS!!!

edit: any1 with some news on if lance got off?

Vandenberg's reaction was stupid, but hardly malicious. A couple of games would have been sufficient I would have thought. The "elbow push" really hurt Robertson as he was on TV less than 24 hours later laughing and joking. Not sure what to make of it all to be honest.

Having said that, I want a captain to be a little more controlled on the field. Richie tries hard, he gives 100% for the Hawks on the field, I have no problem with that, but I think if he is still captain in 2007 we really aren't being serious. Time for Hodge to take the job.

Fantastic news!! Vanders has been playing pretty poorly all season. And given that he is captain (which I don't agree with) it means that by default he is getting dropped. Great stuff.... otherwise we would be stuck watching him play for the next four weeks....

He's a pretty terrible footballer....

I agree with the Lord.

While I don't agree wholeheartdly with Lord_Espos he does make a good point.
I was actually thinking of starting a thread straight after last weeks game about whether he should be even playing.
He hasn't played well all season, I think one or two decent games, and for a captain that isn't good enough.
I don't think we're going to lose too much with him not playing

JUst had to read your forum abot Vandeburg. He is a disgrace! I really dont think there is a dumber captain than him. Throwing a forum and elbow so recklessly - you would have thought that being a Captain he would have shown more discipline and leadership.

Hopefully he will learn from this. Anyway he has been playing very poorly so some time out might be the best option.

That's a forearm Informer you dip:D:D:D:D!
Granted Vanders is an ordinary footballer and we lose nothing having him out but if that was Hodgey getting 4 I'd be pretty p'd off! Inconsistent of the tribunal but someone was due to get a few. They probably thought Vanders to be an easy target. The only people upset are the teams we're playing the next 4 weeks. I heard Buddy got off, get him straight in and the young guns up firing again!

LOL.....Sheesh...
Settle down guys....I never said he was a good player (which he is,just isn't great!),and I also don't think he should be captain.....

Just stating that I believe 4 weeks is pretty harsh for a few "Love Taps" as I heard one the guys from Fox Footy say, and, it would appear the Hawthorn mob agree:

The Hawks were shocked after the tribunal agreed with the match review panel's findings even though the club had argued - through advocate Iain Findlay - that Vandenberg's actions did not even constitute a strike because they felt the impact on Robertson was only negligible, which is below the minimum required impact of low for a charge to be sustained.

"That is a disappointing result for us," Hawthorn football manager Mark Evans said after the hearing, as Vandenberg left without comment.

"We contested it because we didn't feel it was a strike and we felt the penalty offered was more severe than the action warranted."

Evans said the Hawks would consider an appeal.

Vandenberg told the tribunal that Robertson had been the aggressor throughout the incident, which began on the boundary line and then continued between the two players even after Vandenberg's teammate Peter Everitt had also become involved and had bumped Robertson.

"I was trying to get away from the situation, I was running to position and trying to get on with the game," Vandenberg said.
------------------------------------------------------------------

It goes on to say that Richie said "I felt my personal space was being invaded" and he admitted to 'making contact with his arm to Robertson's shoulder/chest area' in an attempt to 'get him out of his face'...............Personally I saw contact with the head :o

Oh well can't blame a man for tryin'.

Frenchman - "forum - forearm" Unsure where my mind was. Well picked up.

"He invaded my personal space". Does Richard know he is playing football (a contact sport). Absolutely ridiculous.

It is a shame Crawf couldnt hold on for a few more years before giving the captaincy up to Hodge. They made the right decision is not giving it to Hodge as he just needs to concetrate on getting the footy.

ABC news have just reported that Vanders appeal has failed and he will serve the full 4 weeks.

Vandenburg was named in the starting 22 and will now have to be replaced.

<troll>

The Appeals Board implied that if they had the power, they would have reduced the penalty, but that no error was made at the tribunal according to the rules as they stand. Basically, saying that the tribunal rules are incorrect, but that they were followed and no appeal could be considered.

As much as I hate VDB, he never deserved 4. Everyone knows that. Maybe 1 + 1 for priors.

Well hopefully he learns from this and comes back a worthy captain.
