So Varcoe is not a " real player " ? You enjoy making these inflammatory statements about Travis?

Its almost as if you're wishing him to fail. A totally negative campaign against a Geelong player over a long period of time.

I can imagine if Varcoe plays an average game on a wet confined SCG, you will out there saying I told you so. Thats a little sad tbh.

Gotta stop sucking those lemons meto.

It's only my opinion, you think he's great! I don't. I'm just not looking through rose coloured glasses.

nothing wrong with an opinion, its just useless without facts and an argument (gliding doesnt really cut the mustard).

who are your rose coloured glass players?

Go on, say it, I dare you!
We should all be saying numero uno, number one, the best.

But I'd say, what for? Precious little, so far, in comparison to the hype that comes from his fan club.

Lets just hope number one can get a kick this week and do something, rather than just glide.

No disrespect to you Meto but do you care to elaborate or even explain what you are talking about here. Not sure if you've been to the local pub all day, or even whether i may be a tad delirious, but i fail to comprehend anything that was written in the above post.

Its just another anti-Varcoe tirade...its sort of de=generating into abuse now....you haven't missed anything.

Right now on form he may be below some of those, but if an opposition team could pick 5 of our players , I'd bet my membership Varcoe would be in that 5, more times than not.

For your sake it's a good thing you'll never get to test that theory because you'd most definitely be out one membership.
It's not just on current form that he's behind the players mentioned either, they're simply ahead of him under any criteria or period of time.

David the Cat said a few posts back that "The bashing of Travis on this board is laughable" but apart from the odd exception I don't see much evidence of that, more like a few posters, myself included, trying to keep things in perspective to balance out the hyperbole surrounding TV, such as the claim that he's in our top five when clearly he isn't.

Gotta think that maybe you're guilty of the same thing now as you were in 09 when you declared St.Kilda the best team you'd ever seen, only to amend that later and admit you went a bit over the top. ;)

I can imagine if Varcoe plays an average game on a wet confined SCG .....

Heck Dave, that sounds like you're getting the excuses in beforehand this time, just in case Trav doesn't rip it up Saturday night. :)

Exactly correct. He's on the improve, took a big step last year, but he's not elite yet. He didn't have the greatest game on the weekend. I don't see why pointing that out suddenly becomes a Varcoe-bashing thread.

partridge and cattery, i dont think others have issue with reasoned discussion. i daresay most are venting against meto's red in the face non-sensical rants.

Exactly ... :thumbsu:

TBH anyone who isn't excited or hopeful about Travis stepping up and achieving his potential can't have blue and white blood. With JNR gone he could be one , along with Kelly, who could make up the shortfall. He did miss a fair chunk of the preseason and looks a little nervous at the moment - particularly in the way he gives it quickly instead of assessing all options the way he did last season. Let's all hope he gets his mojo back soon because he can be both a line- breaker and a game - breaker !

Agree F2G
The mojo will be directly related to the confidence in the shoulder.Similar to Kelly's return from the broken leg and countless others who have suffered serious injury.Takes a while to get it out of the back of your mind.

There is nothing wrong with looking through rose coloured glasses when it comes to supporting your football team. Argue with reason or without, football is more than the tangible, its about passion, pride and loyalty, so anyone that isnt wearing rose coloured glasses probably does not understand the true essence of supporting Geelong. Heck for 44 years the GFC survived on rose coloured glasses. With Travie to the end! TTB

After tonights display it may well be(the end). Back to the two's would be his best position, make way for Mitch Duncan.
ATM old Trav is the weak link in the team, he's being carried!

and the vulture circles just waiting to post.

what about menzel? he didnt get your requisite 20 disposals.

meto when the Swans kicked within 6 points of that 3rd term who kicked the ever important snap goal from 35 metres out to again put the margin back out to 2 goals as it was all night?????????

He misses that then we in for a different 2 minutes following. Little plays that Varcoe produces which many people don't see. Do you seriously wanna drop him against the Hawks next week? If you do then I hope you pay attention to your mrs on a daily basis

More rubbish from you meto...

Travis was ordinary tonight though...flashes are not what we need from him. Will be a different story on the wide open expanses of the MCG though.

can't wait for this game:D Rioli v Varcoe for just one quarter is what I am hoping for:rolleyes:
gonna be a rippa match worthy of a 80,000+ crowd (given weather conditions)

He's a poor man's Rioli. Better disposal, worse tackler and less consistent. Less mongrel too.

Amazing your all (the varcoe besotted, I mean) talking up the Rioli/Varcoe dual next week, man, the guy doesn't deserve to be there!
After last nights gluiding you must be joking.
I'm proud of the team and their attack on the ball, but I carn't say the same for your idol Varcoe.
Was impressed with the courage of little Bundy. Big mention the WOJO.

Never been the player that he is built up as. Poor decision maker-see 2009 GF- and doesn't do the hard stuff-doesn't take the Bartel like marks, the Chapman like goals, the Selwood like in and under and now the Menzel/Duncan goals- might be fast but that is not enough.

Wont be dropped but does need to stop being a princess.

Ground and conditions didn't suit him but he should be performing regardless.

He seemed to have more mongrel and intensity when he was lumped with less responsibility, perhaps he isn't cut out for mid field? I liked him better when he was all about chasing and tackling, those sorts of things produced more effective possessions for him and seemed to give him some value in our side. Too much talk about fill ablett's spot and a dodgy Pre season is probably weighing on his mind, I say simplify his role again and watch him flourish
