Just out of curiosity (I'm in year 12, studying VCE Economics) who is doing Economics, and what are you actually covering?

It just seems to be Year 11 replayed and i'm beginning to wonder if my teacher is just scewing me over the for the exam? :D

I did it quite a while ago (Yr 12, 1992) and even then it seemed to be covering old ground, but perhaps covering it in more detail.

The exam was so easy I walked out after the minimum half hour and got a B+ (second highest score in the school).

I think you've either got the nous for economic theory or you don't... Yr 12 might open you up to more specifics and different scenarios compared to Yr 11, but the principles applied are the same, so the gist of it either stays with you or it doesn't.

Sounds good.

I'm going well thus far, with nothing less than A. So I'll be interested in how i go on the end-of-year exam.

I was just a little concerned because the stuff we are covering is extremely similar to the year 11 course and is quite a breeze - Supply/Demand factors, economic objectives etc... And of course, the exam seems to be focused on stuff i haven't covered yet - Budget/microeconomic policy specifically.

No offence but that's actually extremely stupid of you to walk out early and especially stupid given that you still only got a B+. Terrible attitude imo

I sort of agree.

IF it were a maths methods exam though, i would be marching out early (had I finished). Whenever i go over my answers and change them, they turn out to be wrong (and correct originally).

My eco teacher will be waiting with a 2*4 (he did last year  ) and he's going to clobber anybody who leaves early :p

im in year 12 doing econs aswell.

so far weve covered macro, trade, and cad.

Nothing on the basic economic principles, the market mechanism etc?

I suppose it is assumed knowledge from year 11, but even so.

I just finished reviewing the last economic objective - External stability.

I have a SAC in two weeks time reviewing and explaining the concept of price stability, dealing strictly with the problem of inflation. We also have to cover the demand/supply factors which have an affect on price stability.

Looking forward to writing my 1000 word report in 90 minutes

I did actually finish the exam before the half hour was up... that was the point I was trying to make.

I was a bit of an idiot in Yr 12, and study was not a priority - I'd answered every question as best I could because I had not studied for it.

Should have been a very easy exam for anyone who had made an effort.

Only just stumbled across this thread.

I'm doing it by distance education - I've been intending to do economics at uni since yr 10, and felt it was worth doing despite my school not running the course (as a result of this and another distance course, I now have classes first session only once a week :p).

We do it in 8 week blocks. The first revised the basics of macro and micro, and the second, which I've just finished, was the economic objectives.

The next one is budgetary and fiscal policy. I'm starting it when I get off the net...:(

I'd kill to be you.

Economics seems to be one of those subjects where people bludge (across the State) and a limited amount of classes are needed (unlike something such as specialist).

That said, i'm not really a fan of distance education, lack of control and whatever. You don't know what's happening to your marks, if they're worthy marks etc etc...

It seems like you've covered half of Unit 4 already, though. I haven't had to distinguish between micro and macro (not that i can't from year 11) yet, and i certainly haven't started budgetary or fiscal policy. The objectives however, well i've covered them and completed a SAC, which apparently, went down 'exceptionally'.

Not looking forward to the end-of-year exam, since i'm thinking there will be questions on the paper i've never even heard of/seen.

I'm doing Year 12 Eco. Just started fiscal policy. I had a look at past exams the other day and most of it seems to be Unit 4 ****. Have a look at the VCAA site, 2000-2003 exams there.

How did you all go in the Unit 3 Sacs? I got 36/40 and 60/60.

Halfway through Yr 11 here.
We just finished covering 'government economics' (In particular budgetary & fiscal).
Covered an almighty amount of basics in first term.

Nice to see a few BigFooty creepers doing Economics ;)

It is true though, the exams seem to be dominated by the work completed in Unit 4 which...seems kinda pointless. I mean, Unit 3 was basically Year 11 condensed down into half the time, and they're not even assessing it.

If I were an Economics teacher, I would just start Unit 4 earlier than the deadline.
