Why would you do sideways trades early season?

It wasn't exactly a sideways trade. Hurn was about 100k cheaper than Broughton and was averaging about 50 more than Broughton after the first two rounds so the trade was a way of making some decent cash before Broughton's price dropped and Hurn's increased.

Seemed like a good idea at the time but then Broughton started scoring well and Hurn's scores turned to shit when he was copping a tag so I had to trade Hurn to Adcock before his price plummeted too much.

In hindsight probably should have just stuck with Broughton but at the time he was looking too risky to hold on to. At least I made some cash out of those trades to use elsewhere and if Adcock keeps scoring well then I won't have done too badly.

note to self in the future when a player plays 3 terrible sides and scores like what hurn did its unlikely they will continue that scoring when they play the top sides. Never trade in someone so unproven when they arnt a young improving player.

Always look past the face value of the score. I consider everything like the conditions, who played on them, ground ect

Yeah that's all well and good but there are price considerations to take into account. After two rounds Broughton's price was going to have a big drop and Hurn's was going to have a big rise so made the trade on that basis as much as scoring potential.

I realised that Hurn's scoring may not have continued to average around the 100 mark but still thought at worst he would score around 60 or 70 with the odd ton but he had two shocking scores of 24 and 39 so I had to trade him before his price plummeted. Of course since I traded him out he has scored well again with 111 and 75.

You can say I should have stuck with Broughton or stuck with Hurn but what if I held on to them and they kept scoring shit and their price plummeted further? Easy to be wise in hindsight.

It's better than wasting two trades. Broughton was always going to pick up at some stage, even if it took to mid-season - so the worst result would be you'd have a D7.

Going to run out of trades very quickly - with no benefit - if you keep sideways trading.

I wouldve kept Broughton unless you didnt have Deledio or Scotland

Well i dare say it matters what other players are doing in your position.

To show you through an extreme lets say Brohgton is avg 65-70 after 2 rounds, but other premiums are also avg 70-75 but one or two are avg 100-105+ then they would be appropriate to trade to or otherwise you would be far better off keeping Broughton.

I really think you should have kept him. No hindsight involved. He started slowly but came good last year. He was going to fall in price but what did that matter when it wasnt significant 20-30k from memory and he was a very popular pick.

Or otherwise you should have probably downgraded to a rookie you missed and was going to make money. Use the money elsewhere. Bugg, Ellis, M.Clarke and Morris were all good options.

FWIW im DWD and i was always going to trade Broughton to either Bugg, M.Clarke or Deledio all players i didnt pick. I was extremely impressed with Deledios funnily enough lowest score of the year in 91 in round 1. I said at the time i cant really see him scoring too much less than that. Thats turned out to be the case. I didnt think i could afford to have Deledio rise 20-30k and Broughton at the time expected to lose 40-50k (didnt happen) ended up being 20-30k.

I mean had Fyfe not got injured Brouhgton may have not scored like he has. I still have concerns over him.

Well you did well to pick all 3 although they were almost all in all BF teams. If i had picked them i would been in a superb position. You cant get them all im happy with all other players i picked. Hindsight id prefer Clarke, Bugg and Deledio over K.Hunt, Broughton and Morris/Ellis.

I still find Adcock a strange upgrade.
