Here is a list showing known seasons and names A-Z where the club coach named for the season missed at least one game due to accident, illness or interstate duties etc and was replaced on the day by another person. Further research may add to this list. It has already grown from original set thanks to Rhett Bartlett noting that in 1920 Richmond coach Dan Minogue was replaced by Max Hislop for a game.

1920, 1925, 1930, 1935, 1937, 1941, 1944, 1945, 1946, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1981, 1987, 2001, 2005, 2014

Darrel Baldock, Ron Barassi, Perc Bentley, Jack Bisset, John Blakey, Brendon Bolton, Wally Clark, Alistair Clarkson, John Coleman, Allan Davis, Bob Davis, Brighton Diggins, Wally Donald, Graham Donaldson, John Dugdale, Jack Dyer, 'Titch' Edwards, Bill Findlay, Frank Goode, Les Griggs, Eric Guy, Tom Hafey, Jack Hale, Dick Harris, Royce Hart, Reg Hickey, Norm Hillard, Max Hislop, Verdun Howell, Fred Hughson, Allan Jeans, Ray Jordon, John Kennedy, Alan Killigrew, Phonse Kyne, Neil Mann, Leigh Matthews, Jock McHale, Keith McKenzie, George McLaren, Dan Minogue, Mel Morris, Kevin Murray, John Nicholls, Elton Plummer, Dick Reynolds, Ron Richards, Bob Rose, Cec Ruddell, Bob Rush, Joe Ryan, Greg Sewell, Roy Simmonds, Ray Slocum, Len Smith, Norm Smith, Bill Stephen, Charlie Sutton, Alan Thaw, Jack Titus, Neil Trezise, Ted Whitten, Tom Williams

According to a recent statement by the AFL history staff, 1930, McHale and Rush are to have the records changed. No comment made about the other instances. Extraordinary !
