Bigger grounds in the WAFL, the VFL tends to be a more physical/contested style of play.

At rep level, the VFL won over at Leederville Oval in a close encounter. The Sandgropers travel to Victoria in 2007, and if the game is played at TEAC Oval as the SANFL game was last year, then it will certainly suit the VFL side and they should win again.

Would love to see a footy carnival where WAFL and VFL clubs meet... You could argue which is the better standard forever. The three (including SANFL) reigning premiers up against each other would be great to see.

I'd say VFL by a fair bit as WAFL games are too often one sided and the clubs there lack depth.

The WAFL consistenly has teams winning by around 100 points. There aren't too many games which go down to the wire, it seems that one team gets a run on and thats it, game over. More ball out wide as the grounds are much bigger. The reserves comp is also quite weak with a lack of depth but the VFL is definitely boosted by having far more AFL listed players playing week in week out.

The VFL has more teams and the range between the best and worst is much closer.

there needs to be a champions league type competition with 3vfl 3wafl 3sanfl 1qafl 1sydney leauge team 1canberra league team

or something along those lines

That is a fantastic idea. It would clearly settle who are the best sides outside the AFL. And would be great viewing that would generate interest into local footy.

You couldn't seriously have a team from the Sydney league or Canberra league compete with VFL, WAFL or SANFL teams. They would get walloped, especially if you're having the top 3 sides from the VFL, SANFL & WAFL.

Good idea in theory though.

In reality the VFL is probably better than WAFL now. Playing quality outside the AFL listed players resonably close, but over here there is almost one AFL team to each VFL team, where in W.A there are only two AFL clubs feeding 9 WAFL teams. So purely on the number of ALF players lining up each week the VFL has a stronger core.

Take all AFL players out, and I think the WAFL holds it own, hence why representative matches will remain close between the two.

But on any given week you could go watch say Perth v Swan Districts and there may be 2 AFL listed players on each team, or Geelong v Sandy and they are basically AFL reserve quality.

May 26, when the WAFL play the VFL here at TEAC Oval should be a good close match. From memory WA looked pretty good against the SANFL before getting overrun last year.

I realise that 22 players v 22 players in a one-off match isn't the only (or necessary best) comparison of the strengths of each competition, but I'm looking forward to see how they go at representative level.

Sydney Football League and ACTAFL

I realise that the Sydney League and even the Canberra League would be a fair way off the pace but having them involved would be good for the development of the Aussie Rules code in a NRL dominated state and territory.
