I'm getting a new video card soon and I was wondering what you fine people think I should get? I have an old TNT2 but it doesn't work well anymore... it has serverd it's purpose. I recently bought a Geforce 2 mx440 but it kept stuffing the computer up so I took it back. Bare in mind I'm not the rich type so I don't have much to spend - no more than $250. What should I get?

Go to http://www.pricewatch.com

They have some 128mb cards for around $80-$90 australian...

Not sure how good they are ...

Got myself a GeForce 4 Ti 4200. Fantastic card. Costs just over $300 for the 64 meg version. Although it varies in price depending on the maker.

If you want a video card for gaming, then I recommend a GF4200, GF4400, radeon 9000, 8500. A radeon 9000 has performance a bit less than an 8500, but is a lot cheaper than the 8500's. You should be able to get a 128MB 9000 for a bit more than $300. I wouldn't even go next to the G4 MX line of cards. They are basically geforce 2's with the geforce 4 name...;) :)

Wait a few months or weeks, save up a few $'s for a newish MB and make sure it has AGPx8. Then look around. ;) Won't need to upgrade for a while. I

Yeah, I suppose. Wait at least two weeks. The reason is that the nV30 (new nVidia card) is expected to be announced. This will mean a reduction in prices for nVidia gf4 line but also a price drop for the radeon line of cards.....

Got a Geforce 4 ti 4200 for my b'day on saturday. Took me a while to get it working (had to fiddl ewith the bios and stuff like that), but it is absolutely amazing. Fifa 03, Madden 03, GTA3, MOH and Warcraft 3 look unreal. Movies are great as well, great clarity. GOnna plug it into the tv on the weekend.

Word of advice when purchasing a video card.
Never buy top of the range.
There grossly over priced and youll only really use it or notice the difference when creating your own graphics.
