You mean 23.7%

And what exactly constitutes a 'gamer'?

I seriously doubt 40% of gamers are female.

I know there was a year head start but it still pretty amazing that if you take out Japan (where Sony was always going to have a strong foothold) the 360 has sold 25% more consoles than the PS3 (36 mil to 27 mil).

why are they comparing MW2 if they care bout profitability.....

didn't they see the december npd....

mario kart wii
mario kart DS

still at the party months and years after release.

thats why nintendo first party games rarely go down in price..... the demand is nonstop

good luck finding a second hand version too

the marketing quip by kotaku should have been obvious though

avatar has wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy more channels for promotion than videogames

you don't see Modern Warefare 2 splashed all over the evening news

Don't mean this as a PS3 vs 360 fanboy type reply, but I were pretty surprised at the figures if you take out the US for both consoles, PS3 has actually sold more with a year less to do it...

worldwide, excluding USA
360 15.64
PS3 19.24

worldwide, excluding USA and Japan
360 14.41
PS3 14.66

The US seems a little out of touch with the rest of the world. It's similar with Avatar's figures if you compare them to The Dark Knight. Dark Knight was massive in the US, Avatar massive for the rest of the world. I think Avatar was only about 5th ot 6th all-time for the US (last time I looked anyway), while Avatar was 2nd for the rest of the world, closing fast on Titanic. Some countries (Australia and Russia) I believe Avatar is already #1 all-time.

yeah, avatar did amazing numbers in Australia

over 70 million already iirc

if you multiply by 10 to take into account the population difference.....

its like a 700 million american domestic box office take.

That is very impressive. I think Titanic around 600M in the US isn't it?

I'm proud of Australia, it was embarrassing having Titanic at #1 :p :D
The US need to lift their game a bit.

I seriously doubt 40% of gamers are female.

I don't doubt this at all.

Just because you don't play with the online doesn't mean they're not playing.

IMO you don't notice them because:

a) they might not advertise it publicly.
b) they prefer to play off-line games.
c) they play online games but avoid online interaction.

Fat chix.

I also remembered all the girls playing the Petz games on DS.

Personally, I find it difficult to call them 'gamers', but oh well.

Regardless they're making Nintendo millions.

Have to give it to Nintendo, they've take the Game Cube added a fancy interface and re marketed it to the "families". Even Atkinson approves of the Wii and its line up of family friendly shovel ware.
