I would love to see Vlastuin in the guts.

There was talk that he doesn't have a big enough tank to play in the midfield. If Dusty can, surely Tigger can? Maybe when Yaz is back in the side he could spend a bit more time in the middle

Agreed.
But I see it as a balance thing, and all about the difference in the score.
The ball starts in the centre, spends more time between the arcs etc, etc.

Would there be a bigger benefit or margin advantage if Vlastuin played centre, with his clearance ability, kicking, composure, rather than Townsend?

We might lose a little bit down back, but we would have a huge gain in the middle if Vlastuin, Miles, + 1 mid where in there for clearances.
Net result would mean we win by more.

Natural mids. Yes we really need some imo. Full time mids that are inside and contested players. We have lots if wingers and more outside than inside players and forward mids.

Honestly we probably also dont have enough potent natural forwards so we are robbing peter to pay paul. So we are stuck in a bit of a rutt

I reckon Grimes and Batch could play his role - maybe not quite as well, but I reckon they'd do a decent job. We'd almost definitely lose less off half back than we'd gain in the centre, imo. Dea was also a bit stiff not to get a chance to try the role, considering he played almost the exact same style with aplomb in VFL. We're lacking toughness and the ability to win a lot of contested ball in the center, which Vlastuin brings, as well as elite decision making and kicking skills.

Concur , also not totally convinced he suits mid as well as he does down back. Does run in straight lines which is the hallmark of a gallant staunch defender . Townso is a straight down the line mid as opposed to the mid with a bag full of tricks from side steps to blind turns. One is enough ,,,,,,for now

Yes we do, Batchelor. I keep saying this is the role he was made for. And when isn't responsible for a tall, he has been very good and just as good as Vlastuin if not better at taking intercept marks.

we've robbed it, and we've been robbed OF it. Our whole starting midfield from 2013 doesn't even really play midfield properly anymore, so no wonder we're still trying to fix it/bolster it. Combo of bad coaching and bad luck (Lids' being injured from 2014 onward, Cotch carrying the world on his shoulders, Conca being hamstrung since EF 2013... list goes on)

I believe that premiership teams are built around a top class and settled defence. Vlas is a vital part of this and at this stage he is where he belongs.
That said, he reminds me so much of Merv Keane that he would make the transition easily. Look at his goal on Thursday and then look at Merv's goal in the 1980 GF, uncanny.
Will still be playing in 2028.

Vlastuin was playing mid/fwd before he was plonked in the BP. We have others to do that job.
Time to put him back where he belongs for the benefit of the team.
