For the benefit of those 'swinging voters' out there, and for anyone not sure who they want to vote for - I'm happy to personally vouch for Mark Perkins.

No slight on any of the other candidates, as I don't know them, but I can assure you, a vote for Mark won't be a wasted one.

I've known him for 25+ years & here's a few reasons why I believe he is a worthy candidate.

(i) Age: 37 years. Plenty of life & business experience, yet young & enthusiastic enough to inject new life into our board & leadership team
(ii) Started up successful businesses from scratch. Demonstrated history of rolling up his sleeves and getting the job done.
(iii) Knows how an AFL (& especially our club & successful football department) is run. Was North Melbourne's team manager 1995-97 during our most successful onfield era ever.
(iv) Respected by the playing group/footy dept of that era, directors & senior club administrators.

Stated Aims & Objectives

The North Melbourne Football Club to remain a Melbourne based club. The club to build its own asset base and achieve financial independence by drawing on the resources of successful and innovative North Melbourne people to contribute with new ideas and revenue initiatives. Provide supporters with direct access to the Board via an email address personally overseen by a Board member. Supporters can submit their ideas and revenue initiatives direct to a Board member at any time and play an active role in re-energising and improving their club. Provide media training to a select group of young players who will actively promote the club in the media and project a more positive, vibrant and youthful image of the club. Improve club/media relations. Become a more open and media friendly football club. Provide opportunities for prominent North Melbourne people in the media to become more involved in lifting the club profile.

Personal connection aside, endorsements from Dugdale & Stevens & the objectives stated above should warm the hearts of 99% of the regulars on here.

But death & taxes are the only certainties in life. So...if you like the look of this candidate don't sit on your hands. Get off your arse, get a proxy form completed and send it into the club. You've all wanted your chance to be heard and have a say in the running of the club - will this is your chance.

I haven't made my mind up yet, but am leaning towards Mark Perkins at the moment.

Anyone sighted a proxy form? What is the process, ie do you choose one nominee or do you order your preference like a senate election form?

Given the obvious disappointment of not being able to vote for Lidge, Mark Perkins does look like an excellent candidate.

On the North website there is a link to a proxy form on the RHS of the "Board Nominations" story. It has 5 steps.

Step one: Your details.
Step two: Proxy details. If you know someone who is definitely going to the meeting on Friday night, fill their details in and appoint them to vote on your behalf. If you dont know anyone going you can appoint the chairman to be your proxy to register your vote on your behalf.
Step three: You can choose the option of letting the chairman use your vote however he sees fit, or you can tick the three boxes on the second page of the form to vote for your three candidates. There are sections within step three that shareholders only vote on, so unless you're a shareholder leave them blank.
Step four: Your signature.
Step five: Only if you wish to appoint a power of attorney.

You must fax or deliver this form back to the club by 5pm this Wednesday 29th Nov, otherwise its invalid. The fax number is provided on the form.

If you end up going to the meeting or knowing someone that is going, it is a good idea to give them a copy of your completed form to take to the meeting, and if you know one of the candidates you are voting for then hand it over to them at the meeting.

You would hope that none of the forms faxed to the club by Wednesday "disappear" before the meeting on Friday, so taking a copy is a good idea. I believe one of the candidates is having a scrutineer at the meeting to ensure he wont be being dudded by the count!

If you know one of the candidates, or can make contact with them via the club, you can fax a copy to them prior to Wednesday so they can take it to the meeting themselves.

You would hope that all members cast a vote themselves by ticking the three boxes rather than handing their vote to the chairman. If the chairman is given control by forfeited proxies then the existing board will just be picking their own board again and the members choices will be defeated.
So dont tick the box "On all resolutions and items of business as my proxy sees fit" unless you want to hand all your voting rights to the chairman.

Its pretty complicated isn't it? I hope this helps.

Kangalover will be attending the AGM and had already chosen Perkins for nomination to the Board - I like his idea of promoting the clubs image and profile - getting the Kangas out there.
Esposito and Kenton also seem like quite good contenders.

It would be hard to sum up your objectives in one paragraph, but all of that is spot on IMO.

He'll get my vote.

Yeh I liked that as well as the need to build the clubs asset base to increase the clubs revenue.

I just want to whats his stance on communication of ideas like the other nominees with members

This is from his bio on the North website. Other candidates have since run with his suggestion of the direct email link to the members, which is a good one.

didn't we draft a mark perkins from North Adelaide in the early 1990s who never ended up coming across to melbourne?

Mark Perkins sounds like an excellent candidate.

Two questions which hopefully someone will know the answer to off the top -

1. how many people do we get to vote for (my understanding is 3)?

2. is Mark Perkins currently on the Board (doesn't appear to be)?

I am anti voting for current Board members (great and all as they are) because I'm concerned they'll continue to give preference to the shareholders over the members who elected them.

Sorry Doc but we really do need to be heard!
