Firstly can I say "Dear Essendon, *&#% off and die."
The number of excuses coming out of McAvaney and Co when it started going pear shaped for the Dons was embarassing, so to even things up they started a Gazza/Wojo/Lingy love-in late in the last term.

And then some of the crap from the Essendon fans here on BF! The umpires, the injuries, woe is us. Harden the f*** up. The ball bounced into their laps for an entire half of football, they got a golden run of free kicks in front of goal, our disposal was shoddy, and still they got their arses handed to them on a platter. Deep down I think their sensible fans will admit they've had a lot of things go their way recently, and tonight the law of averages got even on Essendon.

Anyhoo, to the votes.

5. Selwood - thought he got a lot of it early and made good use of it when Essendon were really charging in the first half.
4. Chappy - guess what, opposition clubs? He's found his mojo and adds to our midfield rotations.
3. Gaz - practically being assaulted all night and still tore it up.
2. Cam - really, really, really pleased with his discipline tonight. He didn't let the misses get to him, kept presenting, kept doing the team things.
1. Egan - his game on Lucas won't get the credit it deserves in the papers tomorrow.

Big props to many others, and to the team as a whole for the discipline and 'team' things they did all night.

5. Selwood - was awesome in the first half when the game was at its hottest and set us up continually all night. Give the guy the Rising Star award now.

4. Gary Ablett - Typical Gaz game. Extremely constructive and damaging.

3. Paul Chapman - Best game for the season from "the angry ant".

2. Moons - Would've been higher if he kicked straight, but was by far the best forward on the ground.

1. Egan - Owned Lucas until he was moved off him to quell other players' influences, which he did, as only he can. Was extremely stiff with some of the decisions that went against him too, but didn't lose the plot although he probably had a right to.

5 Gablett
4 Selwood - deadset gun
3 Chapman
2 Mooney
1 Stokes

Apologies to Megan.

I agree about the 'unbiased and impartial' commentary from Mcaveney and Watson. My god, McAveney is going to go home abd kick the dog several times with Hird getting injured and his team Essendon losing. Man I hate him.

Agree totally with that.

Loved the commentators making excuses for Lucas. Egan beat him fair and square, why not admit that he's now right up there with the 'big 4' in Scarlett, Rutten, Glass and Fletcher?

Commentary was AWFUL. Don't think they even mentioned Geelong until the final quarter.

5. Chapman - Sensational game, took the game by the scruff of the neck when it was there to be won.
4. Selwood - The Timber Merchant gets better with every game, 26 quality disposals.
3. Egan - Excellent game, beat Lucas hands down early when we were looking shaky, moved off him and quelled everyone he was thrown against.
2. Ablett - Solid, should a few flashes of brilliance, but he's been better.
1. Mackie - Fantastic first half, drifted out a bit later but still played terrifically.

I wanted to give votes to Mooney but can't to someone who kicks 3 goals 6. Woja, Lingy, Harls also unlucky.

Selwood..
The rest

Yes, he was that good. I am weighting the votes considering his inexperience, but in a high pressure, Friday night match, Selwood looked like he was the captain in a grand final. Can we nickname him The Marshall, or The Admiral?

Chappy had 35 disposals and kicked 2 goals. Joel had 26 disposals...I think Chappy was better but Selwood was awesome I agree

5 Selwood Did his best work early when we needed it most
4 G Ablett Likewise
3 Chappie Best game so far but did his best work late when it was easier
