Having finally watched the game I can cast my votes.

5. Deledio - the second half was supreme, and he was very good in the first half too. Overhead marking was top knotch, and the ball just didn't get past him. Disposal was pin point.

4. Cousins - Is there a better exponent of the handball? Underground, over the top, round players - he always puts it to the team mates advantage. That roved goal in the third was vintage Cousins. He's so important to the development of the young guys - he makes them get to the right spots.

3. Martin - He's strong as an ox this kid, and with him, Foley, Jackson, Cotch and Cuz weaving and crashing through the clearances we look very good. That second effort to kick the goal after his first one underlined what's so good about Marto - he never gives in, and no one can lay a hand on him. And that fend off - wow.

2. Newman - Thought he was really good today. Repelled heaps of Adelaide attacks. Looks more competent defensively, and with that tracer bullet of a left - he's so important to our structures and future.

1. Tuck - In and under, never gives in - always shovelling the ball out. Still a bit wasteful by foot, but when you're getting so much of it under so much pressure, I'll forgive those errors.

Mentions: Thought Edwards linked really well through the middle, a great mover who's starting to find more space, and his hands into space is a real feature.
Connors is superb back there - backing into packs, doing the team oriented thing. His last quarter was superb.
Jackson was almost as good as Tucky, and gets none of the adulation - involved in every attack, and he makes superb choices out there. Limit those stupid things that keep getting him suspended and he'll cement himself as a very important player.

He might have made about 2 maybe 3 "superb" choices, but by and large his choices are STUPID in all facets apart from hitting hard, that one keeps him on the plus side. We might see him emerge if and when his second guesses start to pay off through more experience, but atm, with his continued hesitation and his refusal to take a viable option, wanting to reinvent the wheel and basically ****ing up, his overall influence suffers. By that I mean he would be in the top shelf if that part of his game came together, so far its shit house.

Get with the program dude, those days of "did you see that once" aint gunna hold any water with the tigers now. The players that gained AFL careers on the back of a snap in game 10 that had the club waiting to game 120 to see it again have been and gone.

Not going all out on Jacko he does heavy work and is an immovable object in the heat of battle, but to suggest he makes superb desicions on what we have witnessed and continue to witness is completely ridiculous. The kid is arrogant and came and comes across as a winner, but he is still raw in the total footy smarts and execution for that matter. Like i said if he gets that part right over the next couple with added experience then he ascends to the top shelf putting on the polish. If he doesnt he stays in the boiler room shovelling coal into the fire.

He's been on our list for 6 years...his kicking will definitely never improve, his disposal by hand will probably never improve...he's decision making may improve slightly, but mainly in the sense of finally realising the limitations of his abilitiy with the ball and things like when to just take a tackle or take himself and/or the ball over the boundary line and not attempt to get rid of it just for the sake of it every single time.

I can offer more than one example - I just gave you one that came to me straight off the top of my head.

Its all about desicion making dude. The desicion to understand that he aint got the skill and to not try and see if he has got it is the decision he has to get right. Its a well used line that holds true, expecially in footy, a man's gotta know his limitations, when he does and plays to them he becomes a better player. Take Thursty, when he first started out, it was purely i need to beat my man, when i have the ball i know i should immediately give it to someone that knows how and what to do. Slowly with that mindset he has developed and actually does distribute the ball now. Jacko will never learn making the same mistakes time and time again. He will learn making the right moves time and time again. Opposition players will understand that he aint gunna **** it and will try and anticipate his give to the right option. That in time will allow him some time to actually make the right desicion.
Nowadays blind freddy in the stands knows that 9 times out of 10 he wil run in for the kick, hesitate go back, twist the other way, so everyone is ready to attack when its play on and he is ****ed 9 times out of 10. The one time he isnt is what you suggest is why he is superb.

I will refrain from my annual rant of the flawed voting system that is the Brownlow Medal. The 3,2,1 system is, and always has been, a debacle.

But just an observation from this game, maybe revealing how tough it is for anyone but midfielders to gain votes.

According to most Tiger punters on this board and on this thread, Brett Deledio was clearly BOG against Adelaide. If you recall the match itself, it was in torrential weather, driving hail and rain. Deledio stood up like no other, totally controlling the match across half back, and repelling attack after attack by the Crows, taking contested marks and making a series of crunching tackles. Yet somehow our midfielders, Tuck (3), Cousins (2) and Martin (1) snaffled all the votes. Astounding. You could probably ditto this for Chris Newman too, who was amazing on the day.

Is it truly just an onballer award, or does Brett Deledio's work simply not get noticed (hence his overlooking for the AA)?

He won that game for us. Not withstanding Judds ability to poll 3 votes in a 9 goal thrashing, Brett would have won a Brownlow already in a team winning 14+ games every year.
