3: Stanton
2: Fletcher
1: Welsh

Honourables to Ryder, Pev and McVeigh. JJ got a heap of it on return, but wasnt so damaging. Same goes with Hird and Watson.

Dyson and Johns showed some good signs IMO, Heff will be struggling for a game next week, as will Bolton and maybe MJ.

3 - Jason Johnson. Clearly best afield got a load of footy snapped a couple of beautys and gave 100%

2 - James Hird. High 20 disposals, good in congestion, laid his share of tackles and was his usual polished self with disposal minus 1-2 .

1 - Courtney Johns. Tried his ass off all day, presented well but was often ignored in favour of Lucas, kicked 2 and setup atleast 2 more with great ground work.

3. Ryder
2. Stanton
1. JJ

if you were at the game you will realise how much ryder worked today.. carried laycock throughout the match

i was at the game today, just got back, discraceful effort from the boys, the 2006 essendon were back today, very poor

my 3 votes:
3. Jason Johnson (first game back, kicking let him down at times but 30 disposals 8 marks i think and 2 goals for any midfeilder is a good day)
2. Brent Stanton (worked hard all day)
1. Alwyn Davey (very very good effort from him, he has done nothing but impressed me)

These are 3 players who i think will be under the knife from poor efforts today
1. Ricky Dyson (hasnt played well this season, seems to be scared every time he plays, needs to be dropped, too many turnovers from him today)
2. Courtney Johns (he will play next week because we have no lloyd but with lucas being double teamed for much of the day he should have stepped up.. had a lowly backmen on him for the day and was one on one in the majority of contests, i was expecting him to kick a bag today and he disapointed me)
3. James Hird (yes i know 29 possessions, got a lot of the ball, but turned it over a hell of a lot, was put in the dissapointing players by triple m aswell) i hate saying anything bad about this bloke cause he is an absolute champion but today he lacked his traditional class.

with NLM coming back next week hopefully and the roos small forwardline i would love to see mal micheal start at FF... lloydy will most likely be out again and courtney johns i think still doesnt have the work rate or fitness to be a good FF.. he will be one day but for now he needs to get his fitness up, i was at the game watching him and he didnt make many convincing leads. mal does a good job at full back but i fear his lack of speed will put him in a bit of trouble against the roos.... put him at full forward next week, i think drop johns for nlm and probably bring in bachar or campo for dyson...

From a hawk perspective (haven't seen stats yet)

3. JJ - did a job on Mitchell and got heaps of ball himself.
2. Davey - didn't see an awful lot of him, but when I did he was instrumental in your attacking efforts.
1. Michael - Offered plenty of drive out of defense and did well when slowing Buddy down. Interesting move to put him forward, caught us napping.
0.5 Ryder - Very, VERY impressed with him. 1st time I've seen him play, and he looks the goods.
0.5 Johns - Impressed with him also the way he always attacks the ball hard. then again, I didn't see him for a long period of time, was he nursing an injury? Unfit? seemed to spend an inordinate amount of time out of the action (presumably on the bench) during the middle of the game.

I have no idea how some are posting votes or even half votes for Johns, he was benched for a good period of time today. His positioning bordered on stupidity.
Now if you're a fullforward and given the opportunity of a lifetime such as flling in for Lloyd against a side that should have troubles matching up with your size and marking power, one would think you would play out of the square and stop chasing kicks up the ground. Today was his chace to really step up and show the footy world what the fuss is about.
Chase kicks is what Johns did today.

Countless times we thrusted into attack only to find no one inside 50. Johns was leading up bourke street when he should have been staying close to goal.
When we start playing this chipping static game style it is usally because we have no one presenting, no one up field, chip chip.....chip again...and guess what...our forward line is flooded. suprise suprise.
In a brief period in the last qaurter, we finally kicked long and got it quickly into our fifty, and there was Johns, one out with Brown (bog for me). Mark. Goal.
Now you may say, is that Johns's fault that we wern't getting it in their quick? Yes...i think it is. If he wasn't continually chasing kicks up field then maybe our midfield may look up and see an open forward line with that monster waiting in the goal square. Get it quick and long in front. If he doesn't mark it, he'll at least smash some packs and the running crumbers may feed off his spills. He reallly needed to play deep into the goal sqaure and run figure 8's just out in front during a flood.
Personally, I think he needs a spell in the reserves, along with Mark Johnson and Laycock. On another note, I thought Bolton was solid for us today....composed, provided rebound, sure hands and kicking.....go figure.

3- Davey (only one to stand up when we needed someone)

2- Stanton (was the hardest worker all day along with ^^ and may have worked out he can kick better on his left than right)

1 - mcveigh (another great game from him, can hit a target makes things happen)

special mentions to Welsh, peverill, jason johnson, johns (may not look like he did alot but tried as hard as he could all day) and mal and fletcher (didnt have a great day by his standards but still far above par)

3- stanton
2- davey
1- jj

who else flinched and thought 'deju vu' when bolton kicked it across the face of our own goal?

Possibly the most ridiculous thing I have read in my life. What could the team/club have to gain from dropping one of our greatest players of all time in his final year of football after having near 30 possesions.

I agree to an extent - but todays loss had nothing to do with John's.

We were slaughtered in the mid-field - we had far fewer inside 50's then Hawthorn did all day. We were forced wide, and they stifled our run. It's not like we were penned up outside the 50 looking for a lead. John's wasn't the reason we had no one to kick to.

Yes: He was missing in action sometimes, and his fitness seems to be a little suspect. He should be taking multiple leads and presenting himself continuously. When he did lead though he was hard at it, and played pretty well. He needs more composure when snapping at the goals (he sprayed a couple), but that will come from experience.

As much as Id like to agree with your comment, he is definitely looking slow compared to the pace of the game. I agreee that he shouldnt be dropped, yet Im also thinking he may have played one season too many. Time will tell, but at this stage...it doesnt look like he's playing in a winning side.
