Brownlow Medallist
The penultimate game, at the pointy end of the season.
Will the old boys from Dad's Army prevail or the young, precocious pups from Swans?
The rain has tipped the balance in Subi's favour, IMHO, and people at training at Swans last night thought the same as well. We were much more confident in the dry. The hardened bodies of Stenglein, Fletcher, Chick, Keevers and Bristow will come to the fore in this match. Roberts, Lange and Davis will have to match the intensity from the get go, as will the whole Swans team. Good signs last week were that the Swans looked switched on early and in finals this is the way it as to be.
Incredibly Carr and Colreavy were having fitness tests last night, when I thought they had gone! As was Davis. I don't know the outcome but we'll have to wait and see. You know which way I want one of those fitness tests to go!
Whilst Smith has been a little down of late, hyphen has been incredible, so he will need to be watched. Broadhurst has been swinging from defence to attack, playing off the hb/hf lines and working as hard as he usually does. Keevers is usually the catalyst for Subi, IMHO, so he needs to be watched and Hildebrandt can't be allowed to get on top on the wing. Randall is a beauty (rookie list anyone?) off hb and his attack on the ball is usually very good, even when the team's not going well.
On the other hand Hansen has been brilliant and will keep Rumba with his hands full, Notte has played well the last couple and will keep Parker busy and then Geappen has been quiet the last 2, but as Subi know, you can't have all 3 fire, so maybe it's the number 35's turn this week. Randall probably goes to him, I guess?
In the middle Bristow needs to be watched closely, as the Pridda Mk II just knocks up getting to the contest and finding the ball. Does Roberts take him on head to head or do you give Davis/Fleming (Davis, please) a shut down role. Then there's Chick. Hasn't been great all year and has caused a great deal of division amongst the Subi supporters I know, but this is the sort of game he steps up in.
All in all, this should be a cracking Prelim Final and I'm betting Swans will be closer than the 50+ points they lost the GF by last year, although Subi at $2.16 has me worried (Swans are $1.50 or thereabouts).....
Yet another wet game, I should have kept a tally this year because I don't think there have been more wet games than this year, in my memory anyway. I can usually sunbake at Basso but I have only been able to 1 or 2 times.
Anyway, everyone enjoy this one, in preparation for the big one against the Bulldogs.
