Brownlow Medallist
Things are looking up, Swans can’t lose this week, although, should Peel miraculously cause an upset, Swans could be on the bottom! Enough negative thoughts,
let’s get stuck in to Round 2.
Thunder v Demons – Can the Thunder replicate the occurrings of earlier this week and wreak havoc on an unsuspecting Perth? AFL players will be vital in this game for the Thunder, in particular, as they are a fairly inexperienced side. We have Harley Bennell on show again this week, along with possibly Schofield, O’Brien, Rosa and Hurn (yeah right), plus Butcher. Perth will have Smith, Sullivan, S Selwood (?), to go with Cook, Young, Armstrong, Moody, Thornton et al.
I think this game will be closer than many think, but Perth to ease over the line.
Tigers v Bulldogs – well, how can the bullies be limping so badly this early in the season? Some big injuries have caused that. The Tigers should be able to control the ruck, with Wilson and Mgumbwa probably expected to do some of the ruckwork with a novice ruckman, whoever they name. Expect Sowfs to concentrate on getting the ball from stoppages though.
Will the Tiges have Swift, Schammer, Waters or B Jones? To go along with C.Jones, Ruck, Blackwell, Rudeforth, Wilkes, Stevenson, Brabazon and Laurie, who are up against Murphy, Dell’Olio, Head, Hunt, Adams and co.
Thomson v Murphy (if not selected by Freo) will be a critical match up and should be a good one. I’m going the Tiges, just……
Sharks v Royals – shapes as another very good encounter. Remember the Sharks started well last year too, but I’m interested in having a look at Bucovacz, Stevens, Sheppard, Fasolo. They’re supported by McGough, McNamara, Warren, Teakle, Green. The Royals have a number of AFL listed players, like Clarke, Shepheard, JON, Roberton, supported by Swan, Webster, Merrington. Clarke had some good looking stats last week and will be looking to back up with another good game.
Both look to have decent running games but the Royals look slightly better up forward, due to Merrington. Having said that, I’m thinking the Sharks might just get home on their dung heap!
Lions v Falcons – 2 arch-rivals over the past few years and many, myself included, thinking Subi will slip back to the pack in 2010. Bit of extra heat in this one because Campbell defected to the Lions after being delisted by Freo. And if any team doesn’t like a defector it’s the cardies! Should be a good crowd to give it to Kiwi as well. Interestingly, Campbell shapes as a key for Subi, to help replace the Maplestone, Smith, Dennis-Lane forward line.
Waterman says he’s concentrated more on skills, which Subi used to burn you with. However, Campbell still has able support in Broadhurst and Adamson-Holmes gets to play in a position I reckon he’s more suited to at CHF.
We know what the Falcons will bring, intensity and passion. Can they sustain it all game and then all season is the question for me. However, their runners are top notch, with Salecic, Rice, Guadagnin, van Berlo being the key to them getting the ball quickly to Tsalikis, LeCras (if playing) and resting Andrews or Keunen.
Looking forward to seeing the new recruits from Subi and a ding dong battle with West Perth.
