Brownlow Medallist
Intriguing weekend of matches coming up, starting with Sowfs v Perth tomorrow night and we'll see if my Swans can finally open their account at Joondalup, after some epic battles the past couple of years. Then we have East Perth in the Foxtel Cup.
Bulldogs v Perth Fri night, 6:40pm, Freo Oval
It's only taken 2 weeks, but already Perth have baffled, confused and surprised me. D White has been omitted and named an emergency for the match. Are they trying to send him a message, or is it not Damon White, but Dene? Someone help me!

The Bulldogs, to my surprise, got off to a flyer in the season proper against the Royals. J Graham plays his 100th match, first as skipper, congrats to him. C Wilson and surprisingly (to many Eagles supporters) A Hams are named. Murphy named at CHB? Looks a good running side.
Perth, as usual, look a good, balanced side, but can they take the chocolates this time? At Freo Oval it's 99 53 in favour of the dogs. The demons side seems to have been turned upside down from last week, let's see if they spark up.

Sharks v Lions, Sat 1:30 pm, East Freo Oval
This game starts at 1:30, so don't miss the bouncedown. The Sharks have a chance to keep their good start to the season going whilst the Lions can open their account and measure themselves against some good opposition.
The Sharks lose Kerr, but that's about it. Dodd plays his 50th game for the Sharks, well done.
This is a team full of runners, but lacking a little in taller timber. The forward line remains the issue for the Sharks, for mine, but they have some exciting talent in the running department. McGough, the captain, is back, with Houlihan, Dalziell, Monteath, Hadley, Stevens, O'Brien x 2, McNamara, Fasolo et al.
The Lions have Jack Anthony at CHF, who will want to prove his worth to Freo. Broadhurst leads the way, as usual, for Subi but hopefully he has more support. Cockie started the season well, Bristow back makes a big difference, but they will have their work cut out to keep pace with the Sharks midfield, either that or play keepings off by keeping the ball in the air.
Should be a very good match this one, Sharks at home, just.

Tigers v Thunder, Sat, Claremont Oval
No-one's seen much of Peel so far this year and they've suffered a couple of setbacks with Howlett aimed for their team but ending up at the Sharks, plus the O'Brien brothers and Chartres leaving. Claremont, well we all know where they're at.
Claremont lose Swift and deBoer to the AFL, rather mercifully for Peel some might think, but they have quality depth to step in behind. Richardson and Broome have started on fire up forward. With Weedon, Browne, Foster, Houlihan and co setting up a lot of chances, who wouldn't want to be a Tigers forward? In defence they have 4 of the 6 having been on AFL lists and look pretty strong back there.
Peel, well they're a group of youngsters and no names (not being rude people). Will the young players be better off after having been at the senior level for an extra year, doing that 1 more pre-season? We'll see I guess. Peel's hope probably rest rather heavily on the AFL listed players, Crichton, Jones, Lycett, Michie and Wilson. However, looking through their team, McFarlane and Butcher were highly rated juniors, the Thornton brothers back at Peel should bolster their stocks, Battye fit will be a huge bonus and, on a personal note, I hope young Mason is over his injury issues, he could be quite a good player.
Don't think Peel will get close, but I may be surprised.

Falcons v Swans, Sat, Arena Joondalup
Falcons have looked good so far, pre-season and last week. Swans have been closeish, but need to lift their intensity and work rate, across the board, something the Falcons are generally renowned for.
The Falcons have quite a bit of exciting young talent, like Zanetti, Bewick, Black, Elisseou, Hutchings, Harvey and I've just realised Strijk is there as well. Damn you Worsfold, he often tears us apart.
They're a good running side and probably lack a little in the height department.
Swans have gone tall again, is Worsfold coaching at Bassendean?
4 of the 6 forwards are talls, we've been lacking applying pressure in the critical parts of matches and we lose Coniglio. Lammie out must be a bonus though, as I see it, sorry. Davis is lucky to keep his spot, has been poor over the pre-season and in the first 2 matches. We'll see James against his old team so should add a bit of spice.
Critical game for the Swans and next week is the bye so they must win. I think they'll just get over the line. Or is that hope?
