WAFL Tipping Competition 2016 (defunct)

Well the pre-season is over and we head into yet another season of WAFL footy in 2016. And with that the BigFooty WAFL Tipping Competition is back for another year with the first round of matches getting underway this weekend.

Last season saw freofan_mundy run away with the award with a dominant second half of the season to win the competition while Military_man also had a strong second half of the year to finish in second place. Can those two repeat the dose again this year or will we have two new people at the top of the leaderboard?

Once again I can announce that the winner of this year's competition will receive a year's Platinum subscription to the BigFooty Supporters' Club while our second placed tipster will win a year's Gold subscription to the BigFooty Supporters' club. All this thanks to Chief and the team here at BigFooty.

The rules for this competition are as follows,

  • Each correct tip will see you receive one point.
  • A bonus point will be awarded to the tipster who correctly guesses or is the closest to the margin for the winning team in the margin game for that round. The margin game will be the televised fixture of that weekend. If there is no telecast fixture a game will be selected at random.
  • If no-one selects the winning team in the margin game then the bonus tipping point will be awarded to the tipster who selected the lowest margin of the losing side in that particular game.
  • Any tipsters who select the same winning margin or tie for the closest winning margin will receive one point each.
  • Tips must be placed before the commencement of the first game of the round.
  • Any tipster who misses a round will receive the lowest score of all tipsters for that round.
  • For finals, tips will need to be submitted for all three grades, League, Reserves and Colts.

Games for the first round will be posted shortly. The fixtures for the following round will generally be posted by me on Tuesday Nights in readiness for the weekend's matches.

Post your interest if you're keen to tip here for 2016. Don't be afraid to bring along a few members from your board if they're keen so we can have a cracking tipping WAFL tipping competition this year. :thumbsu:

The wait is over with the WAFL getting underway this weekend after each club managed to get a couple of pre-season games under their belts in the last few weeks. 2016 promises to be the most entertaining yet with each club making some impressive signings over the off-season so we should see some exciting football this season in the WAFL ranks.

Round One Fixtures

South Fremantle vs West Perth at Fremantle Oval (2:10pm, margin)
East Perth vs Claremont at Medibank Stadium (2:15pm)
East Fremantle vs Swan Districts at ATOM Stadium (2:15pm)
Peel Thunder vs Subiaco at Bendigo Bank Stadium (2:15pm)
Bye: Perth

A couple of cracker games to start with in 2016. South Fremantle vs West Perth looks to be a good match up an is the telecast match this week while East Perth and Claremont also looks the goods with several West Coast players certain to take part. Peel Thunder host Subiaco in what looks to be another good fixture while East Fremantle take on Swan Districts in the remaining game.

All games are on Saturday this weekend with the TV match between Bulldogs and Falcons starting five minutes earlier. If you're interested in the other grades, the Colts match between South Fremantle and West Perth starts at 11:25am with the reserves beginning at 5pm. The Colts game between Peel Thunder and Subiaco has been moved to a twilight match, starting at 5pm.

Good luck to all taking part this year and hope to see you tipping soon. Happy tipping!! :thumbsu:

I tend to start every season before forgetting to tip every second week...
West Perth by 24
East Perth
Swan Districts
Subiaco

Notes:
- South Freo look intriguing, particularly with Shaw returning who'll take a lot of focus and pressure off Pullman. They could have a couple of handy key forwards.
- Really can't see where the goals are going to come from for Peel. They need Ugle to be dominant.

Cam McCarthy :D seriously but for a KPF it'll probably be Apeness or one of the last batch of taller draftees. Be interesting to see how Shane Yarran goes outside of Subiaco

Good point on Yarran. I forgot about him because he wasn't named. I do expect him to play a significant amount of AFL games.

McCarthy shouldn't be allowed to play for Peel. I believe South Fremantle (his original club) have been in discussions with GWS to have him train with them.

Yarran's an interesting point for discussion and with the likelihood of Walters and Ballantyne playing more midfield minutes it could see Yarran getting some opportunities. When drafted I saw Shane as replacing Chris Mayne in the Dockers best 22 during season 2016 as a more potent forward line option. Looking through his 2015 stats and hearing both sides of the debate I'm not as convinced as I was now. Winning the Bernie Naylor medal is a great achievement, however his first half of the year was much more productive than the second half if i remember right, happy to be proven wrong but.

As for your second point of course McCarthy shouldn't be allowed to play for Peel, doesn't mean it won't happen though. Last I heard he was looking to train with the side his manager Andrew McDougall coaches at amateur level but I wouldn't be surprised to see him around South's during 2016 even as just a spectator.
