WAFL Tipping Competition 2017

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Well it's back by popular demand, the BigFooty WAFL Footy Tipping Competition is back again for 2017 in what promises to be one of the more exciting seasons in the WAFL we've had for some time.

Last year saw Monocle crowned BigFooty's top WAFL tipster after a very good second half of the season. Spanna_ finished in second place while gaskin came home third. Can those three repeat the dose this season or will we have another three tipsters up the top of the tipping ladder in season 2017?

Prizes for this season will be announced soon in this thread.

The rules for this competition are as follows,

  • Each correct tip will see you receive one point.
  • A bonus point will be awarded to the tipster who correctly guesses or is the closest to the margin for the winning team in the margin game for that round. The margin game will be the televised fixture of that weekend. If there is no telecast fixture a game will be selected at random.
  • If no-one selects the winning team in the margin game then the bonus tipping point will be awarded to the tipster who selected the lowest margin of the losing side in that particular game.
  • Any tipsters who select the same winning margin or tie for the closest winning margin will receive one point each.
  • Tips must be placed before the commencement of the first game of the round.
  • Any tipster who misses a round will receive the lowest score of all tipsters for that round.
  • Finals TBA.

The games for round one will be posted shortly. The fixtures for each round will generally be posted on Tuesday Nights in readiness for the round of fixtures each weekend.

If you're interested in tipping for season 2017, post your interest below along with your tips. Don't be afraid to drag along a few other members of your board if they have an interest in the WAFL. Hopefully we will have another great WAFL competition again in season 2017. :thumsbu:

It's hard to believe but season 2017 starts in under two days with every club having had at least a couple of practice games during the pre-season. The clubs have looked vast and wide for the best recruits with all clubs boasting a few new players in their ranks. This season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive and closer ones in recent memory. Hopefully that will lead to a tight season with some great football in between.

Round One Fixtures

East Fremantle vs Claremont at East Fremantle Oval (2:15pm)
Swan Districts vs Perth at Steel Blue Oval (2:15pm)
South Fremantle vs Subiaco at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (4:15pm)
East Perth vs Peel Thunder at Leederville Oval (7:05pm, margin)
Bye: West Perth

A cracking round of fixtures to start 2017 with all four games on Saturday. East Fremantle and Claremont meet at Shark Park while Swan Districts tackle Perth down at Bassendean. South Fremantle battle Subiaco in a twilight fixture in Fremantle while the TV game this week is the two alignment clubs East Perth and Peel Thunder locking horns at Leederville in a night game which should rake in some viewers with the AFL still a week away.

If you're interested in the other grades they're a bit of a mess, it's a normal start for the Colts and Reserves in the East Fremantle vs Claremont and Swan Districts vs Perth games with the Colts starting at 9am and the Reserves at 11:30am. It's an 11am start for the Colts for South Fremantle vs Subiaco with the Reserves at 1:30pm. While for East Perth vs Peel Thunder, the Colts are at 1:50pm and the Reserves at 4:20pm which is a twilight match.

Phew, well that about covers everything. A busy start to the season and hopefully we'll see some good games of footy this week despite the rain that is forecast this weekend. Good luck to everyone taking part this season and happy tipping!! :thumbsu:

I look forward to rubbing my win in your face.
Pretty sure you've said that to me before

Pretty sure it didn't work out so good for you either

I have no idea why I like you.

I'm surprised so many are tipping Souths when Subi is the one team we can never beat.

Not as bullish on Subi as some experts are.

On paper they'll finish top 3 again but need to find more avenues to goal in 2017 to continually put winning scores on the board, unless they play a Fremantle 2015 style of play. Bolt out of the block than defend tight till the final siren.

Defence looks very capable but losing goal kickers in key forward Hamish Shepherd and mid Brett Robinson who was a goal kicking mid are hard to replace.

On the opposition, I watched Souths last weekend albeit against Claremont they were clinical after quarter time. Easy to see why they are tipped to be around the finals again. Gained a lot in the player exchange period while only giving up very little/ reserves players.
