Ive been gunning for Waite to be played down back for a while now... This could be the start of a new Cary vs Jacko rivalry which could keep us entertained for years...

Good match up but how does it leave you up forward

In previous years waite has been a real handful for our defenders, probably for the same reason. I remember the year before last at the dome, waite single handedly won the game for you guys up forward. Obviously big fev will do some damage but im just curious - do you prefer him up forward or down back?

That was the only game Waite has EVER won off his own boot.

Judging by one game (and a practise match at that), I prefer him down back. After round 5 or 6 though, my opinion might change.

All I can say is thank god Pagan has finally moved Waite into the backline. With Fevola, Kennedy, Fisher in the forward line and Whitnall a much, much better forward than defender becasue of his pace, this was bound to happen at some stage. Thankfully, the move appears to have payed off.

Yes, it's a good matchup on paper. I worry because there are few key forwards as physically weak as Lucas (as soon as he has any body-on-body contact he goes to water), and that might have made Waite look better than he was.

That leaves:

Thornton on Williams
Setanta on Roughhead
Walker in the midfield

We'll find out on Saturday night.

willo should cover thornton for pace off the mark i would have thought?
You'd think so, but Thornton has done well on him in the past.

Williams is quite good overhead on a lead, so you can't put someone like Scotland on him. His opponents need a good defensive punch, and Thornton's pretty good at reading the play. Won't say it's guaranteed though, Walker might end up with the job.

i tip waite will beat Buddy every time Hawthorn would need to make good use of their chances or face down the Barrel

Buddy is pretty soft.

He's not your bash and crash type forward.

I hope they give Bower a crack at him.

Anderson should also be given a chance, this is his type of match up and I'd prefer he be allowed time to learn in NAB cup games, so he doesn't go straight into the real stuff untested.

*drool*

Really looking forward to that contest, and the match in general.

Didn't you say that you wanted to see Setanta on Waite?
I really think that Waite is the ideal person to line up on Franklin, and if he plays well on him, could go along way in determing the winner of this match.

thanks for the input ShanBoi.

Personally i hated the idea of Waite playing down back as he can be so dangerous up forward as you know.

But only after seeing him hold down that position last week and coming out of it BOG am i convinced.

I think having a super talent such as Waite down back and our skipper up forward to lead from the front is a positive move. It will also give Fev, Fish and Kennedy more space in the 50.

I also think Waite is most suited to Franklin. He will be able to negate franklins marking, and even out-mark him in most one on one situations.

As for Buddy at ground level, theres only so much of his magic that a defender can do anything about. Waite will minimise this.

Just slightly worried about what franklin could do if waite plays a bit loose as he did on lucas on a number of occasions.
