Our problems didn't lay with our on-field personnel, but in the coach's box. Under instruction, we continue to overuse the ball, and it was a throwback to the really dark days of 2008.

So Bailey has infact acheived nothing since he has been at the club. Shit. He should be sacked before round one if this is correct.

Tappscott is the best kick in the team. He can hit a player from fifty with a well weighted kick. You haven't seen nothing until you see this guy play.
And you haven't seen him play at senior level, so what's your point?

The same thing is said about Strauss. Not much point being a great kick if you can't win the ball, or panic under pressure.

As for your Bailey post, he's still an ordinary match day coach, but he does have better players at his disposal, so you would expect some improvement from 2008. I wouldn't have renewed his contract last year, but it may be a godsend if we can snag Malthouse next year.

We got smashed in the stoppages despite dominating the hitouts. Whilst I agree that Scully and Mckenzie are pivotal to our midfield, Hille and Watson would make an enormous difference to theirs.

And whilst having Frawley would have beenn infinitely better than Warnock, our woes in the backline were a result of not being able to clear the ball, rather than losing one-on-one contests.

And you are extremely optimistic to suggest that a player who has yet to play a senior game (Tapscott) will make a world of difference.

I suggest you watch a replay of the game, and see how many times we handballed to a player under more pressure (especially Trengove). I doubt that Scully and McKenzie would have done anything different.

Spot on :thumbsu:.

Couple of things i noticed on Thursday.

* We overuse handballs. So many times a player would handball to someone standing next to them or handball 5 or so times and be in no better position.

* No sheparding or talking. Too many times players got run down from behind.

* When kicking out a lot of the time they went to Jamar.

* Essendon when on the wings would centre it when coming in the forward line. It looked second nature for them when doing it and a majority of the time a player was there waiting.

* Our delivery into the forward line was very poor.

Look, I know that you're an extremely highly strung and excitable kind of guy, but you've got to take a deep breath at times and think things through.

There's a lot of experimentation going on in these practice matches and naturally players are rusty. Being a young team that has recently had a third world midfield we can't afford to have quality contested ball winners out of the team. Two years ago our midfield was the worst in the league.

Have you watched the first half of Geelong and the Saints ? The Dees/Bombers match was so much higher in standard it's not funny. Yes, Geelong are missing half a dozen top-liners, but clubs are trialling tweaked game plans and won't hit form for a number of weeks. Essendon are running on a feel good story with high octane and good luck to them.

We'll be better than last year and fall somewhere in the 7-10 bracket. Leave your 'woe is me' persona for others that care. :thumbsu:

It would highly unlikely that Davey and Green would play that badly in the regular season.

Our second ruck is a problem - defense is a little weak without Frawley

Tapscott doesn't look like the type to panic. He is a tankscott:)

I thought one of the main issues we had the other night was the fact we attempted to play our normal game at etihad and it just does not work. I think we need to start learning how to play that ground better as we will inevitably be playing more and more games there in the future. See wc home game there this season. it's often been said that we need a plan b if things aren't going well.this was clearly evident on thursday night.

This. :thumbsu:

It was a coaching failure - hopefully we will see an improvement as we have 4 games (?) at Etihad this year.
