Carlton is yet to digest the final report from surgeon Greg Hoy on Andrew Walker's shoulder, but senior coach Brett Ratten has said the prognosis is not promising.
The club was expecting to receive the report on Tuesday afternoon amid speculation that Walker could miss up to 10 weeks with his injury.
"It doesn't look great at this stage," Ratten said at the club's Spirit of Carlton golf day at Keysborough Golf Club.

"The surgeon is giving Andrew a few options and then we’ll sit down and have a think about which way to go, but he'll be out for a period of time anyway, a bit of a chunk at the start, I think."
"I think we'll look after the player and we'll do the right thing by him and the club, but he's a No.2 pick and we'll really look after him going forward."
"It's unfortunate, but these things happen in footy."
Walker injured his shoulder when laying a heavy tackle on Bulldogs forward Robert Murphy early in last Friday's NAB Challenge match at Princes Park.
The 22-year-old has a history of shoulder issues and played under duress for the second half of 2007 after popping his shoulder against Hawthorn in Round 12.
The shoulder popped again during the pre-season, prompting the club to book him in for surgery.
"We had a fun day down at Torquay and he was on the surfboard and it popped out going through the waves at Torquay," he said.
"It would have popped out in any game situation that we got to, so we got it fixed up just before Christmas."
"He played (against the Eagles) in Alice Springs (two weeks ago) and then plays the first quarter (against the Bulldogs) and that happens."
"I really feel for him, he worked really hard, he's running up there with Chris (Judd) in the time trials with his times - he was flying physically, the shoulder just popped."

lets just say the only positive so far for Walker

is that he has the best surgeon going around

Dr Greg Hoy is the best in the business and i know from personal experience

he did the surgery on my wrist 2 years ago!!!

I'm sure Mr Hoy will be glad for the wrap.........but they work very hard and long to elevate themselves from being Dr to being a Mr (i.e. a consultant).:thumbsu:

Quite right though, he is one of the best shoulder surgeons around.........unfortunately he doesn't have a wand.

I assume you haven't gone and reported that all by yourself. It's generally a good idea to indicate that and give the source. I don't think the site you got it off would be happy for their stories to be reproduced at other sites.

Your wrist will be taking a beating again once Judd debuts and we smash richmond!

Greg Hoy certainly is held in very high regard as an orthopaedic surgeon.

Can I ask, has Walker had surgery on his shoulder previously?

They may be tossing up an open vs. arthroscopic repair, the latter having a shorter layoff but higher failure (ie. risk of re-injury) rate.

So I take it the wrist is now flying? :p

yes the wrist is fine. occassional aches and pains, standard for the kind of surgery and bone fractured, but i dont think spending a lot of time on BF helps me!!

well its all for a good cause!!! :D:D

and for the wrist taking a beating, it already has. hahahahah

Yes - he had an operation on the same shoulder in November.

Gotta feel for Walker. Was having a terrific pre-season, and to miss half of the season has to gut-wrenching for him. Hopefully his shoulder will heal alright, and he'll comeback and play some good games later in the year.

[bagging]Insert comment about using that magic wand to drastically improve Walker's decision making and efficiency by hand and foot[/bagging]

I too can personally vouch for the surgical prowess of Mr Greg Hoy.. He also worked on my wrist pamam...

He really is good..
Most doctors said there was no point in surgery in my case as the injury often re-occurs.. Especially if i was gonna continue play bball..

He fixed me right up and i'm still good..and still playin ball!

i fractured the scaphoid. no blood runs to that area so its hard to heal and surgery is the best option!!

yeah well he gave me the choice. a 90% chance of my wrist healing with healing with surgery or a 30% chance of it healing with without surgery but put in a cast. and if it doesnt heal after 3 months i would have to get surgery after that with even lower chance of it healing after that

so i said book me in. 3 days later i had the surgery!! nice screw in the scaphoid!

Nice...
I had a ganglian in my wrist.. a buildup of fluid that leaks from a small tear in the muscle and presses on the nerve making it pretty painful especially when i would shoot a basketball..

Go Greg Hoy!!!

Fix that shoulder like he fixed our wrists!!!

funny thing is after 2 months in a cast i got a strap for another 3 months which still stopped my wrist from moving

and he actually told me off and gave me a sarcastic remarks after i got my strap off saying i never wore it.

the fact was, i got it washed every week coz it stank and used the removal metal bar in the strap with a bandage for about 2 hours so i could wash the strap and dry it. so it was always clean

in the end he believed me but funny thing was he suggested when i got it that i should wash it regulary.
