Different to last week when Geelong ended up with the ball anyway, Riewoldt had it 60 out when the siren sounded. . . . . .

Saints got the four points and good on them, they did the most in crunch time to overcome us, however if last week wasnt enough to learn by for the timekeepers they've done it again.

RICHMOND coach Terry Wallace wants the AFL to be held accountable for several lost seconds in the final minute of his side's loss to St Kilda. The Saints won 17.8 (110) to 16.11 (107) after goalsneak Stephen Milne booted seven goals, three of them in the final term, including the last goal of the match almost 24 minutes into the last term to put his side in front by five points.

But the Tigers had three shots at goal after that point, a Nathan Brown snap hitting the left post, then defender Kelvin Moore hitting the same post after taking a strong pack mark 30m out with about one minute to play.

The resultant Saints' kick-in was initially called back and had to retaken, but the time clock was allowed to run while that was happening, Wallace believing about 14 seconds was lost.

Richmond then won the ball in midfield and worked it back to youngster Jack Riewoldt, who had a set shot from just outside 50m after the siren, which failed to make the distance.

"We had no doubt after the Kel Moore shot on goal, when the resultant kickout came out, the clock continued to run down," Wallace said.

"It was sitting right in front of me in the box, it continued to run down, it didn't get reset, whether it was 14 (seconds or) 17, it was over 10 seconds of lost play.

"We'd love to have that 10 seconds to be able to make the right decisions at the end of the game."

A similar situation occurred during the final minute of last Friday night's Fremantle-Geelong match at Subiaco, which the Cats won by a point.

After the AFL hit Sydney with a $50,000 fine, half of that suspended, for fielding an extra player late in last weekend's drawn game with North Melbourne, Wallace said someone also needed to hold the AFL to account for their mistakes.

"From the point of view of the game and the structure, we wear the loss, we had opportunities to win the game, I've got no issue with that," he said.

"But we are playing a super-professional sport here, it cannot be making mistakes like that.

"Can we have a fining system? Can we go to the AFL and fine them if they want to fine us?

"We've probably had someone step over the line or do the wrong thing on the interchange today and we'll get slapped with a please explain why.

"Well, who explains to us?"

Asked how much the penalty should be worth in comparison to the Swans' fine, Wallace said: "It's worth four (premiership) points, that's where it sort of sits."

"We'll wear the fact that we lost the game, we've got no issue with that, but there's got to be a professionalism that lifts the standard so those sort of things don't happen, particularly a couple weeks in a row," he said.

Anything could've happened, Moore should've kicked that goal, but the point is GET PROFESSIONAL! THis shouldnt happen in the biggest league in the land. :thumbsd:

That is bad if true, we could have still nabbed a goal from the resulting kick of Jacky's, poor form Timekeepers.:thumbsd::mad:

it happened in the bulldogs game as well, and in other teams games, but it keeps getting ignored...its ridiculous

Who controls the time keeping? is it an independant body (ie; contracted out) or an AFL department

I highly doubt it is something that is NOT within the AFL, I have a feeling it may be talked about again during footy classified

This really peeves me off ( I say peeve because I am not sure if I can use the other word.). Yes we may not have goaled in those last seconds, but because we lost those second we were robbed of the opportunity to be able to get a goal.

I think Wallace is right when he complains that the AFL demands that the clubs must be professional all the time and santions them even if they don't blow their nose correctly but treats thier own administrators with kid gloves when they are unprofessional. Who polices the police.

Richmond should demand a please explain to the AFL and asked to be compansated for being denied oppportunity. I don't expect the 4 points but we should be compansated by the AFL somehow.

Also what would have been interesting is if Jack ignored the siren passed off to a running player and goaled. Richmond may have a claim like St Kilda last year against Fremantle when the upmires continued the game to play even when the siren went.

I have just seen the vision on Channel 7.

It clearly shows the controlling umpire put his hand up and take time off then do it again to put time back on which means the clock must run.

This was the fault of the field umpire not the time keeper's fault.

The same thing happened the in the Freo vs Geel game last week when the controlling umpire failed to blow time off.

The AFL never had this problem when the clubs provided their own timekeppers.
The AFL in their own warped wisdom decided that "Professionals" were to be given the job.
Yet another top decision by the AFL:rolleyes:

The controlling umpire got it wrong not the timekeepers.

The umpires are in control of the time not the timekeepers.

No one is going to give us back those seconds......move on Terry.

If you read what he actually said, he clearly stated we lost the game and nothing can change that and we missed opportunities. All he was saying is that it's happening in every game now and something needs to be done.

As it was a kick in, time should have never started until it's legally entered.

What the umpire did was spot on, the timekeeper didn't.

If you watch the vision the field umpire put his hand up twice. He should have only done it once.

That's irrelevant on a kick in. Absolutely irrelevant.

Regardless of the umpire the clock doesnt start until it's legally re-entered.

I'm over this as an issue for our game specifically, but for god's sake AFL house fix this timekeeping issue. Imagine if this happened in a finals situation.

Pffft. no offence, but Richmond are junk. 17 seconds. More like 17 years away from being a good side

Why do some people start their posts with "no offence" when its clear that its their intention anyway? Is it in hope they dont get bagged for their comments by other posters?

Hey Prebble, "no offence" but your a D___ Head :thumbsu:

Like P_R said, the extra seconds might not have won us the game, but it is a joke that this is happening repeatedly.

The AFL have to step it up, as this just undermines the country's greatest game.
