Could be a good move - avoiding the burnout, but ODI cricket will never be the same.

It makes sense. After the World Cup there are only rinky-dink ODI tournaments to play. And he probably feels that he can be more easily replaced inthe ODI side (witness Brad Hogg). Also, blooding a young spinner at ODI level to take over from Warne when he gives the Tests away is an excellent idea.

I hope so. Warnie's greatness in future years will be determined by the number of Test wickets he takes. One day figures are looked at, then forgotten.
If Australia wants Shane Warne to be knocking over batsmen in the Test arena in years to come then I feel he must sacrifice his place in the one day team.
I want Warnie playing Test cricket for another 5 years and beyond, he is certainly capable.

That's probably a good idea, his form over the last couple of years hasn't been what is used to be in one dayers so maybe it is time for him to go. He still has what it takes at test level but opposition batsmen are no longer troubled by him at One Day level and he is often very expensive for only a wicket a match.
his retirement will further add to the great divide between the test team and the mickey mouse one day squads that are rotated in and out.

Life without Warney, at least on ODI's will be tough to imagine, but it is inevitable soon enough. If his test career can be prolonged, it's a good move.

Fantastic way to groom a younger spinner for higher honours in the future.
Hoggy would be pretty pleased in the interim. Might get to play at intenrational level for a couple of years now.

Got to play well for us before he can play for Australia.Hogg has been brilliant so far and deserves an extended run there.He is in the 2 or 3 best fielders in the team can take wickets and contain with the ball.Add to that the fact that he is a better batsman than the rest of our all rounders (despite his position in order) and we have a very handy cricketer.Brings a bit of experience to the plate too.Originally posted by mattyc2422

In his column this morning [only needed to read him twice today to translate his words into digestable English], Roebuck muses that's Warne's retirement is just a big tactic to let him captain his country cricket squad in England. Roebuck says Warne will most certainly return to the ODIs ... when it suits him.

It's just good to see someone come out and say (if I get the subtext right), that most ODI's are hit and giggle, and the important things are tests, the World Cup, and playing for the Vics.
