Reported in the herald sun today that he has nominated the blues as his prefered club.Appantly the dees can't match the cash which is about 400k a season and it is believed he has a strong desire to play alongside judd which clinched his decision. Now 1 question i wan't to ask are we offering to much money for him,i know we have room in the cap but 400k for a unprovin player i don't know.

unproven yes, but a much better prospect then Hackland. And lets face it, nobody will pick him up for $200,000 (probably his market value if he stays at Freo). Given our situation, and the fact that Cloke can then play a permanent CHF role, I think its money well spent. We need a Warnock more than a Kerr/O'keefe etc.

Man I thought it was only 350 Grand! :thumbsd:
---------------------------------------------

Darth Warnock: Perhaps you think you're being treated unfairly?

Carlton: [after a pause] No.

Darth Warnock: Good. It would be unfortunate if I had to leave a garrison here.

Carlton: [to himself] This deal is getting worse all the time.

Let's not be gullible here. Carlton aren't paying him $400,000. Warnock's manager has floated that figure to make sure Fremantle don't threaten to send Warnock to the PSD. It's a figure thrown out there to scare Freo into accepting pick 24 quickly.

I think you are closest to the 'mark'. The figures quoted in any newspaper will only ever be those put out there by the player's manager, either to boost what they get from their current club, or to scare off potential, but unwanted, suitors, if the player is seeking to be traded.

For pick number 24 , it's a good deal . $400k a year is rather high though for only 20 odd games ! But the advantages of recruiting him to our team make it enormously worth it .

thats what was in the paper.
I have a question say something happens where your big footy doesn't remember you how do you remember the number of E's you have in your Name??:confused:

Anyways i think we heard that he prefers Carlton before but i think we ought to realise that he is only 21 and hasn't shown a hell of a lot to prove his worth in big money just yet. I think the club will decide what is fair and what is reasonable for him and us.

Whats new in that article?

Has been reported during the week with 1.4 over 4 years........up from 1 mill over 3 years.....and now 1.6 over 4........byt he time he is traded it will be 2 mill over 4. LOL.

Until I see a direct quote from Icke, Swann and or Warnock or his manager, this is all just speculation. Just Journo's trying to be the one's who break the big story.....not unlike the BF rumour mill.:o

12 days and we will know.:thumbsu:

Personally, I believe that we put forward $150k for Robbie and draw the line there. If he really wants to be at Carlton, that'll do him. If not, then we shouldn't want him if he's only there for the experience of playing with Judd and for cash.

It's posts like this one that makes BigFooty such a great site...

We're not going to beat out other clubs for Warnock's services if we offer him $150,000.

A 206 cm ruckman as mobile and talented as Warnock is worth twice that at the meat market.

Bump it up to $200,000 then. :D

I don't believe he's a necessity at the club, and would much prefer to keep some room in the salary cap. You never know what could happen, and I'd hate to be in the same situation as a few years ago.

Eddie, it's crap that you are 1. drinking at this time of day and 2. drinking. :thumbsd:

Warnock is a necessity if Kreuzer can make it as a 50 to 60 goal a year forward/ruckman. ;) :)

Personally, I'd rather he and the Hammer dominate in the ruck and Kreuze kick 20-30 goals on the run per year. :)

The issue is, that this season the blues were smashed in the ruck, and the club/Ratts/MC need to be seen to do something proactive about that.

Recruiting Warnock is the BEST option, we get a long term ruckman with height and skill. If we continue to let Cloke, Krueze and Hammo play in the 1's and we get smashed again in the ruck next year, there will be outrage amongst those BF seers, who will say "why didnt we get our ruck sorted out over the off season"!

Worst case scenario is that we have 3 very talented ruckmen who are worth trade/pick value.:thumbsu: (esp to a team like GC17, who will need mature rucks to be competitive!)

We could go for Jeff White type but long term he has no value, this way we give up #24 and most likely get a top #15 in 2-3 years if we want to move a ruck on.

Your solution is to do nothing and rely on the rucks we did this year, which is pretty short sighted!

The only time I've gladly watched a Ruckman sprint was Justin Madden in 1993.

Which is a possible comparison to make. Warnock hasn't done much but neither did Harry before he came to Carlton either. If we do get him I'll reserve judgement until after 2009 season.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Robbie in the team, but I also believe that we've got to start leaving room in our salary cap, just to be sure. I'd like to learn something from what happened not too long ago. Throwing the remainder of our money at him just doesn't seem like a logical plan to me. =/

Carlton are going to give Fremantle pick 24 what a joke. Give them nothing and keep our picks, but no not Carlton always the quick fix.

Get real. He's 21 years old - where's the quick fix? Do you think we would be guaranteed a prospect like Warnock with pick 24? Why take the risk?

Its not the point he is 21, you should never trade away first and second round draft picks unless it is a proven player. Wornock has proven nothing get it !

Neither has pick 24 you mongaloid.

At least with Warnock you know that the potential is there. The chances of picking a dud at pick 24 are much greater than picking someone with the potential of Warnock. Pick 24 for Warnock is a bargain if it eventuates, we should take it and run. There is a reason that so many clubs showed interest in the guy, it's because players that are 206cm tall that show good skills and high level of fitness don't come around too often and if available on a free market would go first round in the draft.
