OUT of contract Fremantle ruckman Robbie Warnock yesterday met with Carlton where he reiterated to the Blues they are the club he wants to play with next season.

After two senior seasons with the Dockers, the giant ruckman informed Fremantle that he wanted to return home to Melbourne and nominated Carlton as his club of choice.

The Blues are understood to have offered him a four-year deal worth about $1.4 million.

Melbourne and Richmond are also keen to secure the 206cm 21-year-old. However, Carlton's insistence that it will not offer anything better than its second-round choice, overall selection No 24, has led to a stalemate, which may not be resolved to the Dockers' satisfaction.

Fremantle is demanding a first-round pick as a suitable exchange for losing Warnock, but yesterday the Blues maintained the stance that their first selection (No 6) would not be traded.

It is understood Warnock has threatened to nominate for the national draft, which would leave the Dockers out in the cold without any compensation.

Warnock's preference is not to join Melbourne, where a deal could have been clinched more easily as the Demons enter trade week next month with selections one and 17.

What happened to 1 million over 3 years? Why would we increase the offer if....according to Denham, he had already indicated us as his preferred club? Sense? Little.

At this rate it won't be long before he is reportedly the highest paid player at our club.

I know ruckmen aren't supposed to be overly smart.......so someone should explain to Robbie before he does this that the Dees have picks 17 and 19, one of which they will use to get him..........nominating for any draft means he wears Red and Blue next year.........at least in the PSD he could nominate a contract as well that might price the 92.5% Dees out of the market.

Fremantle have two choices here:

1. Swap Warnock for selection #24. Nice - easy - done.
2. Play hard ball, lose Warnock for nothing, and continue their reputation as a club that continuallu drops the ball during trade week.

I really would have thought that the decision would be pretty easy.

3. Do a deal with the Dees (pick 17, 51 for Adam Campbell) behind his back and let him slide into the PSD.

4. Freo investigated for Draft tampering and stripped of all picks.:thumbsu:

Sorry champ, doesn't work like that. The AFL have to be convinced that each deal is reaonably fair for both parties. Picks 17 and 51 for Campbell doesn't fit that bill and if he nominates Carlton then there's no behind the back deals allowed. Freo cop a penalty from the AFL, lose Warnock and get nothing.

All trades are assessed by the AFL before given the green light.
Any shiftty deals or heavily unbalanced deals are met with penalties.

As has been said, either the dockers deal with us..........or they risk losing him in the pre-season draft for nothing. He obviously doesnt want to go to melbourne (who would?) and can simply refuse on any trade he isnt happy with (any other club that makes an offer).

Personally it doesnt phase me if we get him or not, i do like the clubs stance on it.

To be honest I'm not that impressed by him. Would hope the club knows what they are doing - seems like a lot of dough for someone who is yet to prove themselves and doesn't have a massive highlights reel...

If we miss him - I'll be more than happy to keep Pick 24

If we get him I will pray that we don't give away the houes for him and he comes good......

Prove Campbell isn't worth 17 and 51.

Was Pick 27 to start. Ready to go AFL player next year...in a spot that Melbourne are struggling. IE Tall forward.

Good luck stripping our picks.

They would bluff, but they wouldn't do it.

Cool......you take the risk, we still keep pick 24 and get our KPP.

Good luck with that.:thumbsu:

Big clubs like Carlton Collingwood or Essendon may just get away with something like that, but a penne ante franchise like the shockers would be slapped like a red headed stepson by demitrou and co.

Have a look at Membership, profit and revenue to see who the big clubs are. You might be surprised.

Anyhow, Campbell being a late starter at pick 27 , 4-5 years development by Freo so he aint no Veale. If the AFL pulled us up on that we would just say Warnock is worth more than pick 24 so f*&k off. Your great Robert Walls has even compared Campbell to L.Franklin???

**Bolded** Lance Whitnall :)

Based on what? The amount of games he's played? His ripping ability to turn a game on its head? His height?

What's he done that says he's worth more than 24?

Agree, im not all that excited about gaining his services, but if we do snag him I hope he becomes a gem, but im yet to be convinced.

Because he is 206cm agile and a good tap ruckman.

3 years in the system.

With his size he should only started playing this year as he was so skinny. He HAD to play last year when Sandi went down and conducted himself well as No1 ruckmen. This year he had pre-season surgery and lacked match fitness. This is why he didnt start to mid year. Started to get back in the swing and then hurt his shoulder. He has shown more than Wood in his few games and he went in the first round. Plus 206cm agile ruckmen are real easy to find :thumbsu:

Ask yourself if he wasnt any good would you be chasing him an prepared to pay 1.4mil over 4 years??? This alone is enough to show the AFL he is worth more than pick 24.

Warnock was pick 42# in the 05 draft...
the same year bower was pick 20#.

would you trade now.?
of course...
it's either trade 24# or nothing...
apples for apples.

Whether he is worth pick 24 or not is debatable, but what is of absolute certainty is that HE IS NOT WORTH PICK 6!!!

Now let the big boys sort out the deal...:D

He was pick #42 cos he was a project player he was about 70 kgs and 206cm. At the time we had Longmuir and Sandi to take care of the ruck so we could spend time getting him bigger and stronger. He is starting to show the fruits of our labour and will explode in the next year or 2.

I agree he is not worth pick six but he is worth 24 and another 2nd rounder or another player (like Browne)

Seems fair.

Two 2nd rounders or 2nd round pick plus player is on the mark.
I wont speculate on which players might be offered though. My opinion is too biased

Fair enough....like you said lets let the big boys sort it out ;)

Logic would suggest that he's threatening to go via the ND because he's set on avoiding sliding to the Dees via the PSD. If he's determined about this then it's really a matter of semantics as to whether or not you could get away with a 'Veale deal' sleight of hand. ;)

You'll get 24 a maybe a fringe player or you'll get zip. You see, we'd like the boy but, particularly as this draft is SO strong in rucks/KPP, we're not that fussed.

Either way it looks as if we're destined to continue this discussion right up until the thursday arvo of draft week.

Ibbotson pick 26# 05
Mckinley pick 29# 05
Bernie Vince pick 32# 05
get real with what you think Warnock is worth
'IF' you take 24# big chance you'll get a reasonable player.
or....face this headline...'Warnock walks for nothing'
