When i was a little tacker he was my first favourite player, he is a deadset dumbass but despite all the crap he could play, especially before he went to the bears.

He is 50 next week and on open mike on monday, anyone got any memories of the wiz.

90 games and 317 goals for sydney.

My last memories are him returning in 1991. I knew he had been my favourite, but i was only 4 in 1987 so i didnt remember him fully if that makes sense. 91 he marks goes back from 40 barely made the distance, disapointing.

Yeah ... I never liked him at the time, but I was living in Wollongong at the time and was far more aware off the off-field shite surrounding him and his missus, and Edelsten, et al. I struggled to like the Swans then, even though they were a very strong side ... Paul Kelly was the player who seriously won me, despite his years leading a bad, bad team.
But in hindsight I am aware now what Capper did for the club, and that despite his dumbness the one thing you've gotta give him credit for is never taking himself too seriously ... "a man's gotta know his limitiations", and Capper knows his. He also always seem quite positive about his life and legacy, and I can only give him credit for that.

He was my boyhood hero. As an 8 year old I had posters of him on every wall of my bedroom. I remember him being a pretty friendly bloke who'd always chat with me when I went into the rooms after a game. Mum used to tell me that we got along so well because he had the mind of a child.

When he went to the bears I cried for days, ripped up all my posters and scribbled out his autograph in all my autograph books. Take it well, I did not.

His peak was pretty short lived but he was an absolute freak at his best.

I was a massive fan. The other kids at school hated him. Took hangers and kicked bags with regularity but also if you paid attention a good footballer in general play.

You still cry a lot, don't you?

They might have hated him but the kids all across the country were jumping on backs and yelling CAPPER.

When he was on song everyone loved watching him play and that was not just Swans fans.

We should ensure to star a happy 50th thread on the main board.

I hated everything about him (his public persona) except his play for the Swans which meant I sort of like him.

I copped so much flak at School for loving Warwick Capper based my junior footy on his big marks and persona. I had the matching mullet and took the big hangers. I'm now 39 playing masters footy and the mullet and big marks have gone but I have the number 39 on my back. He was a big component of the Swans success and had some handy players around him ;) But it was exciting watching him play, in a tough era to kick 100 and close to it another year was really something. Hated him going to the Bears but got to watch him train at my footy club Mayne. I still defend him when people call him a w***er, I simply say yeah but he could play and is now a household name and must have a fair bit of nous to be so.

ahh the wiz...i was a 12 year old in country SA who copped it because I dared support the Swans and not one of the big melbourne clubs like all the other sheep. Didn't get to see too many matches live on TV, but my uncle sent me tapes from time to time, but the Wiz was regularly on the news taking his speccies. Say what ou will about his off field stuff, but on the field he was quite brilliant at times.
