Play Nice Was that Gaffs last game for WC?

Has anyone confirmed yet if they play Golf together? Could be the difference between 5 weeks and 12 weeks!
Lachie Neale retweeted Pav's tweet. Neale has Brayshaw living with him and he is currently looking after him. Now confirmed by other reporters for AFL. They are not friends and there was no golf game.

Seems like such a stupid thing to lie about when its easily verifiable. Just dumb.

Well i was at the game.

I didnt see the hit off the ball.

If i would have id have felt disgusted.

As it was i didnt - neither did the fans around me - including a docker and a collingwood supporter who i interacted with through the match.

I cheered gaff off as i thought (much like when the carr brothers used to target cousins etc) that gaff had been copping it all game.

At 3/4 time the collingwood supporter went for a beer with some mates and came back and said apparently gaff will do weeks

Myself and the dockers fan went what for?

He said dunno.

Watched the rest of the game and found out about an hour afterwards what hed done - watched the video and was sickened by it.

Next morning - it was my waking thought - quite saddened that it was one of our players that had done that - looked at more footage and thought to myself he deserves around 6-8 weeks for that.

Theres one fans behaviour for you.

Im sure experiences will vary from some eagles fans who think he should be banned for life on one end of the scale - to some who think he should be given a medal and a pay rise “fer bringin back the farken biff mayte” at the other.

I guess its what you would call a spectrum.

I can see with the goodes thing you are trying to paint it into a less nuanced light.

Whatever floats your boat. You guys are angry that one of your up and coming star kids has been belted. I can understand your anger. I felt incenced when gaff was belted last year.

The problem here is that you have just admitted that at 3/4 time you were made aware that Gaff had done something for which he would "do weeks".
Yet you have still chosen to cheer and support him when he kicked that goal midway through the 4th quarter (just like the Eagles players chose to).
Don't you see how bad this can appear?
But no, it seems that because you were part of the crowd, supporting your team, your actions are justified.
This Eagles crowd mentality is what many of us are trying to show as not so healthy ... the Goodes example supports that view.

Feel genuinely sorry for Gaff, the media hype and campaigners who have come out of the woodwork is a disgrace. He hit someone one the footy field (by accident I believe), he didn't murder his wife. Talk about a lynch mob mentality. Some people need to chill out and let the poor bloke cop his fair whack and move on FFS.

Wasn’t an accident he intended to strike. Whether he intended to connect with his face is moot.

Agree, the media needs to calm the **** down.

The assumption is that he lied about it, why can't it simply be that he got his facts wrong and thought it was Brayshaw but was in fact another young player? Maybe it was the Brayshaw brother? Maybe someone mentioned it to him just before the press conference and he was misinformed.

Just because he said something that wasnt true doesn't make it a lie.

I can't believe anyone is even talking about this? Who honestly gives a crap, he got a minor detail (in the scheme of things) wrong.

It’s not a minor detail. It’s a pathetic lie to downplay the severity of what Gaff has done. Basically gone oh look they’re mates off the field, it’s just one big accident!

When in reality they don’t even know each other so it’s just a big crock of shit.

While calling out Freos coach for getting the facts wrong...

disagree. Theres a reason why the law has manslaughter charge and a murder charge. One carries a lesser penalty.

Gaff tried to strike Brayshaw below the shoulders, but instead struck him in the jaw. Barry Hall deliberately struck Staker in the face and got 7 weeks. If thats the precedent, then Gaff should have a lesser sentence because you can clearly see his fist is lower than his shoulder and was trying to get Brayshaw in the chest/arm/solar plexus. Brayshaw lowered his body simultaneously and got struck on the chin.

Also Gerard Whatley has to be the most impartial ****wit in the media.

Specifically remember him downplaying Lewis’ hit on Cripps and was quite clear he was influenced by Lewis appearing on 360 a lot.

Fast forward to this incident and he’s calling for a massive penalty for Gaff.

Biased ****ing tosser.

Maybe its because he made such an issue of the 100mtres of the ball remark by Ross.
And its not a minor detail. Nisbett was trying to push that the hit was not intentional because Brayshaw was a good friend and you wouldnt hit a good mate. Nisbett has always been a slimy spin merchant.

We’re not talking the application of the law for a criminal offence. This is the AFL tribunal. It’s already been classified as intentional. I highly doubt that WCE are going to be trying to argue it wasn’t.

Was Gerard an inside mid when he was younger? Or more on the outside?

Might explain his attitude.

Mate ive seen plenty of attempted bumps where the player has hit the head - not at all by design - but the player has done weeks.

Thats fair enough - the head has to be protected.

Michael johnson had a square up on gaff that i would suggest could have been looked at too.

People were talking about him possibly doing weeks. Turned out he got a fine.

Wouldnt have stopped me cheering for johnson if i were a dockers fan - and being that i thought of gaff as not at all being a dirty player - didnt stop me cheering him.

People said bunga was going to do weeks last week. He got nothing.

Freo supporters need to get off their ****ing high horse.

What exactly is so shocking about a home crowd showing support for one of their best players who otherwise would have been in a pretty lonely place?

What he did was bad, but you can't go around shouting that a man's character doesn't count for anything. Things in the real world are more nuanced than 'good/evil'. Gaff is not evil, he made a mistake and the Eagles supporters and most definitely his coach and teammates have every right to provide support to him.

the reason people are getting whipped up is it is pretty obvious that the Eagles are trying to position so he doesn't get his fair whack.

Hall got 10 weeks with 25% discount for a guilty plea which doesn’t exist anymore. Hall was 10 plus years ago, that’s not a precedent, especially with society’s attitude to coward punches these days. 7-8 weeks seems fair to me however won’t be shocked if it’s more.

Eagles can argue Gaffs intent was to strike Brayshaw, yes. But the intention was to hit him below the shoulders, not in the jaw.

Perhaps you could point out to me a similar circumstance where another club has acted as the prosecution.

You said you didn’t know what had happened, but in the very next sentence you claim that the crowd was cheering because it could be his last as an Eagles player.
Way to pick at straws. Hes saying that the crowd didnt know that he (Gaff) and Brayshaw had an incident of this magnitude, or an incident at all. Heck, even the Freo players didnt know the details of what happened, so how would the crowd? It wasnt shown on the big screen.

All the crowd could see was Freo roughing up Gaff.

Come on mate.

If you want to talk about fair whacks, Michael Johnson getting a fine for an incident that would usually be two weeks.

Hypocrite.

FREMANTLE coach Ross Lyon has defended Ryan Nyhuis, saying his player’s “split-second decision” to sling tackle Robbie Gray was not “intentional”.

Gray was knocked out cold and required a stretcher to be taken from the ground, after Nyhuis pinned his arms in a tackle in the second term of Port Adelaide’s shock nine-point loss.

While Power coach Ken Hinkley said Nyhuis’ action was “exactly what you’re not supposed to do”, Lyon suggested Gray’s concussion was an unfortunate accident.

Did he or did he not say it. That was what I was asking. You can’t say he didn’t know it when he said it might be his last game. Please don’t defend his comment.
