For fear of being banned again by the ironfist of Larri I would like discuss the merits of your drafting policy.

Personally, I think it was an absolute failure by your club not to adapt to modern football which relies on decison making and quality footksills.

Gaff is an elite runner, an accumulator, his skills are neat without being pernertratiing. His pace is above average, everything about him is above average. Not standout. Some think thats great, but when your last 3 seasons have been appalling skill wise, surely you want the best by hand and foot on your list.

My feelings about Darling are well known and nothing has changed. He's a slightly more agile version of Adam Campbell and a nice replacement for Ash Hansen, lacks mobility, is an honest trier, undersized and his skills are average at best. Again, not exactly adressing the flaws in your list.

Lycett was a good pick, two ruckman is not sustainable.

It boggles my mind that a side known for its sub par footskills didnt attempt to address this flaw.

It's like adding a an outdoor shower on a boat even though the hull s leaking.

Personally I think you could have done alot better with the picks you had.

This is an opposition view point, not a troll.

The recruiters assessed Gaff as best available... What more can you ask? you ain't a recruiter buddy.

Two ruckmen are sustainable. A freo supporter should know that. Your giant failed horribly in the finals due to injury - always need multiple ruckmen.

Being a Tigers fan living in Perth I always pay close attention to WC and Freo and yesterday I thought both drafter exceptionally well.

I think the criticism in the OP is ridiculous.

Gaff is a great pick up - was the best available and will be elite. Seems to have a very good attitude as well and will be a welcome edition to that midfield.

Darling's fall has been well documented but the kid can play and talent doesn't just evaporate. He could become absolutely anything - to pick him up at 26 is an amazing return... think of where Tony Notte was drafted and then compare their prospects... not bad huh

And Lycett is a hugeeee bargain!! We had the next pick and would've snapped him up without time for a moments silence between pick 29 and 30 if given the chance. Cox, Naitanui and Lycett is a very good ruck division. People who say you don't need three need to remember how long it takes to develop a ruck. By the time Cox retires, Lycett and Naitanui will be firing! They will be a lethal duo.

Congrats on a terrific draft WC, let's hope this signals the start of your revival - Perth is a better place with the Eagles firing. I think the building blocks are coming together nicely and it won't be too long!

Well done on Conca mate, he's a beauty, was hoping he'd stay in WA so he could play for Perth...no such luck!

Gaff DE 79-80%

Darling boom or bust pick but nothing to do with skills.

Lycett has excellent skills for a 202cm ruckman.

Now piss off troll and go back to blowing your load over Tendai Mzungu lol.

Ben Cus wasn't an elite kick, but he could run and drive the opposition into the ground. That is what I hope Gaff will do and as long as his distribution is good I'm happy with the pick.

Darling could be anything and is well worth the pick, he has shown at Wafl level and last year that he has skills, something that you cant teach.

Lycett was what the 2nd best rated Ruck in the draft? A great pick that will pay off in the long run.

We only had 3 picks and we were never going to address are whole list. This is a great start to what will be a 3 year project IMO

While we're in the game of criticizing opposition clubs' draft selections, how about Freo's performance?

Your list is littered with medium forwards and outside receivers. Pitt, Michie and Mellington were all surplus to needs. I'd have thought an inside ball winner and a key forward were pressing priorities.

Eagles, on the other hand, managed to go best available and fill a need with every pick. This is why WC are generally being regarded as one of the big "winners" in the draft while no one is making any mention of Freo.

Not even close to the same ballpark. For one, Darling has some heart, Campbell's is the size of a pea! :eek:Also, note the sentence following, he lacks mobility. So you're contradicting yourself, or it really is a troll.;)

The other flaw in the logic is would you trade Barlow for someone with a great kick who's only going to get the ball 15 times? Barlow's footskills are neat, what more do you need? No point having the best footskills in the world if you don't get the ball.

However, it must be said, whilst there is a nice warm, fuzzy feeling about the accomplishments in the draft, now is not the time to rate when a ball hasn't been kicked in anger yet, wait 3 years and see.:thumbsu:

Your main argument is heavily questioning why we arent recruiting skilled players when skill will come when confidence infact most skills will come from confidence.

Look at Geelong in 03 or even better Freo last year.

Thanks mate! Absolutely stoked to add another West Aussie to the list, always love getting a local boy.

Got to see him a few times down at Lathlain, should be a great addition to our mid!
