I'd probably attribute that to how his confidence was shattered in the dropping. Although Hauritz has actually bounced back well...
IMO CA have a lot to answer for when it comes to ruining the careers of young spinners in recent years. Casson, Dan Cullen and Cullen Bailey were all chewed up and spat out far too early, with nary a regard for their longterm welfare.

Hopefully Beer doesn't turn out the same way.

It really is appalling how they treat spin bowlers, they appear to be carrynig all the blame for the downward descent of the Aus team whereas seamers and batsmen get far more leeway in terms of performance.

Shane Warne was saying how he got smashed around in his first match. This lot would have dumped him forthwith.

They tend to be young guys who are relatively new to FC cricket as well. No wonder so many of them are such a mess... one day they're playing grade cricket and doing an apprenticeship, seemingly overnight they're on a plane to India or South Africa with the best Test team in the world and being told they're the next Shane Warne. Couple of games later they've been ditched and someone else is the flavour of the week. They've reached the pinnacle of their career before they're 25 and had it taken away in a flash.

That'd mess anyone around, let alone a kid who's still coming to terms with the idea of playing the sport professionally.

Torn on Beer. Not sure if I want him dumped ASAP, or given the opportunity White, Casson, Krejza, etc weren't, and then dumped after two years like Hauritz and hence wasting valuable time we could have blooded Smith.

The single, biggest waste of cricketing talent I have ever seen happens to forging a career for the Brisbane lions as we speak.

James Hawksley.

One of the most gifted allrounders, and the best underage fieldsman I have ever seen.

A hard hitting top order batsmen with a savage cover drive and hook stroke who was capable of swinging it both ways at a reasonable pace.

It's a shame chose football, and a shame he played for a rabble of a club at the time in Rockingham Mandurah.

Had he focussed on cricket I believe he would have made it at the top level.

In regards to Beer he will be fine. The one thing he has over all his predeccesors is height.

The likes of Doherty, Hauritz and Krezja rely on spin and drift, Beer has these two weapons and extra height which brings bounce into the equation whilst also lifting the eye line of the awaiting batsman.

Everyone raved over how much side spin Warne delivered, but for me, his topspinner was his best ball, lead to so many false strokes and in close catchs at bat pad.

You could stick Voges in there as well. He was part of the win of the County championship on the last day of the season by Notts. Batted beautifully to get a ton in fairly tough conditions early on and wound up with MOTM. The guy easily looks international class but just doesn't seem to want it enough.

Surely you jest? He's been around the edges of the international scene for years without making any genuine impression? Seems a good bloke, but...
