SURGERY FOR YOUNG STAR Exciting West Coast Eagles utility player Beau Waters will undergo surgery tomorrow after a persistent groin injury has failed to respond to initial treatment. Waters, 19, had been a shining light in the pre-season campaign before the groin injury flared and after sitting out the first month of the season the club was hopeful he would be ready to resume in the near future. Unfortunately scans today revealed more extensive damage than originally thought and he now has no option but to have the surgery to repair the injury which is likely to sideline him for up to 12 weeks. "The plan is for Beau to return in the latter stages of the season," Steve Woodhouse, general manager football operations said. "It is obviously very disappointing for both the club and Beau but we are optimistic he can still play an important role in the West Coast Eagles 2005 campaign." Waters had a similar problem before being drafted by the club and is aiming to resume in the latter stages of the season. "Obviously it's disappointing to have the surgery but in the end there was no option," Waters said. "The injury has not improved so I will have the surgery and get myself right so that when the finals come around I can play my part."
