Watts needs games, whether its for the Dees or Casey. He is a young KPF and was always going to take time to develop. Get off his back you bunch of short cited morons and try and be a bit more supportive of our future....

Sure, free speech and all that. Knock yourself out. :thumbsu:

I agree. I thought he was pretty good for the qtr he was on the ground. 6 disposals, 5 marks and 2 tackles

How many were inside 50 though? :(

Casey don't play next week.
You're joking!
Stuff the VFL, I think we really needed to see Watts, Newton, Petterd, Bate and Maric fight out for that 1 spot, now we have to go for a player that we hope is in form.

Fold Frankston you pathetic excuse for a football team!

Drop him IMO.

If there was no-one else pushing for a spot (see 09/10) then you'd play him every week, but with Petterd and Newton playing well at Casey, you can't justify keeping him in.

Wait till he kicks a bag at Casey, then bring him back in. The sad fact is, playing a side like Collingwood or Hawthorn, you'd expect Petterd to get you a goal or two before Watts.
I agree. He must be dropped, apart from that 1 good tackle in the goal square he was very ordinary.

Things aren't going his way, he could of ran into an open goal but Davey handballed at his feet.

He isn't helping himself either, he takes a great mark on the half back line and then kicks a shocker to the wing which results in a turnover and goal to Swallow, even at the end of the game when he's all by himself he then fails to bounce the ball properly.

He must be dropped enough's enough.

I think we have recruited our Josh Fraser and Essendon have got their Pavlich. I hope I'm wrong but his lack of confidence is a major worry.

i've seen nick reiwoldt make very similar mistakes in the last couple of years :thumbsu:

you are being too harsh on him as well, players were making basic errors all day because of the slippery, sticky conditions

a bit of perspective

our future is now!

And our past is tomorrow...keh?:D

Seriously though what I mean is that our future is players like Jack Watts who will continue to develop and become a great player. He is a young bloke who does not shy away from hard work and is committed to becoming everything that every Dees supporter wants him to be.

What he needs is support and encouragement right now but too many of our supporters seem to think that "Number 1 draft pick" means "always perfect, ready made player, will not make a mistake ever" but this is hardly ever the case with KPF's because they take longer to develop.

The kid is committed, he is not going to bars or behaving badly, he is working hard and he is demonstrating that he is improving and has the tools to become the KPF that we need at this club. All I am saying is that we as 'supporters' of the mighty Dees should be supportive of Jack's efforts. I met Dean Bailey last year and we had a chat about Jack and he was confident that Jack will become a great player for Melbourne. He told me that he would need last year and this year to develop before we placed any expecations on him because he needed to build up his body physically and that was difficult because his bones were still growing at that time.

Guys like Dean Bailey are privy to all information surrounding Jack's development as a player but we have supporters that have never even played AFL. let alone spoken to Bails or Jack but for some reason they think they know better than the club.

I would love Jack to come out each week and tear a game apart but the reality is that Jack needs more time to develop (and the club has ackowledged this) and with another season and a further pre-season under his belt I think we can look forward to some considerable improvement next year. In the meantime I am of the opinion that we should be looking for positive signs of his development (which I believe are clearly apparent) and providing him with support and encouragement because he will be one of the greats of the Melbourne Footy Club in years to come.

Weird decision. He either should've played the whole game or been dropped, didn't see any value in him being the sub.

Watts would get more from a whole game at Casey than a quarter at AFL level, but maybe the people suggesting it was a rocket are on to something, he produced as much in that quarter as in the 2 & 1/2 quarters the week before

I have the feeling our coaches have NFI what to do with our sub. They've been different types of players every week, for OK input but not great. 2 non-"impact players" in consecutive weeks & waiting a long time to pull the trigger.

How good was the tap over the top to Davey? Funny what happens when you play him in the forward line instead of at half-back flank.

That goes for both of them, could be a great team even if Watts doesn't mark we have seen this year he can spoil too & with Flash at his feet it could work really well.

Just little things but twice this year he has taken really strong overhead pack marks (vs. Hawthorn and Gold Coast) which I've never seen him do before. He seems to be building some confidence in that area which is good to see.

That was absolutely brilliant. Smart, quick, and poised. There are a lot of things like that that Watts does that all the "he doesn't crash packs" fools don't even notice.

On topic, silly decision to play him as the sub. Should have played the whole game, problems are definitely between the ears imo. In that respect I wouldn't be opposed to seeing him have a few games at Casey, even though I was initially of the opinion that he should just about be in the team no matter what. His confidence just seems to be dropping every week he plays at AFL level, could definitely do with some time out of the spotlight.

I guess playing him as sub was a way of not dropping him, but still getting the message across that we need a little more.

Bailey wants to get games into Watts, but has been going on about players having to earn their spot now, so he cant exactly keep playing Watts and not Maric, Newton, Jetta and Petterd for too much longer.

Most likely there is a rotation system with regards to the sub, I'm sure we'll see Dunn wearing the green vest shortly, and I reckon he could be a good impact player when he comes on.

Dunn is actually one of the best suited on our list to play as the sub, never considered it until just then. He can play forward, midfield, tag a player, pinch hit in the ruck if needed & has been known to kick multiple goals in a quarter so can definitely have an impact in a short period of time.

With his so-so form I'd be having him as the sub next game.

That being said, I don't really like that were using the sub as a way of giving players a form warning without dropping them. It could potentially bite us that if we use an out of form player who does nothing if we have a close loss, when we could've dropped them & brought in a sub from the VFL who was in form & made an impact.
