Absulutely no surprise that Mark Waugh has been dropped for the one dayers. The big surprise to me was the inclusion of Hauritz. Maher deserves his chance.

The full squad is: Ricky Ponting (c), Adam Gilchrist (vc), Michael Bevan, Andy Bichel, Jason Gillespie, Ian Harvey, Nathan Hauritz, Matthew Hayden, Brett Lee, Darren Lehmann, Jimmy Maher, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Shane Watson.

I think its something we all expected, but I think other changes are to be made too......

Shane Warne I would only keep as a test player.

The selection of the off spinner Hauritz has put Warney on notice. You'd expect Warne to play the first game otherwise they wouldn't have picked him but he would need to perform better than he did in Oz.

No back up spin from Symonds around either so they may expect Lehmann to give some support (I don't rate Bevan as a bowler).

from a personal point of view i thought mark should of got another chance, but thats just my opinion. But if it was too happen i was wanting Maher to replace him, which happend so its all good. Now hopefully he'll get in be4 hayden.

I think its propobly just a learning tour for hauritz, and wont play (he might if the series is already decided)

Cheers

I would have liked to have seen the selectors give M. Waugh a chance to prove himself. He has been getting some runs over there in SA, so it does seem a little pre-meditated from the selectors.

I'm assuming that the much criticized rotation system will be used for this series from the size of the squad.

15 players seems like a lot otherwise. I mean, if they're not using it, Jimmy Maher is just getting a free South African holiday!

what a load of ****e

hauritz has played 5-10 one dayers at max
watson is ****e
maher was lucky that M. waugh was dropped
the rest is okay but dropping S.waugh because of bad form jes taylor would have been dropped alot of times a few years ago

IMO the selectors have got it just about right with this squad. Personally, I think Hussey with his ING record over the past few years should have got the nod before Hayden (who I'm not convinced about as an ODI player yet - except on the sub-continent). Also, whilst B Lee is a handy batsmen & fielder, his bowling is not economical enough for the ODI's. Would prefer Williams or Bracken to have been in the squad. The main thing is that Boof gets a fair run in all the games.

It is very sad that Mark Waugh has been dropped from the one-day team. He has been a fantastic player for us in this form of the game for the best part of 13 years and although all good things must come to an end, it doesn't make it any easier. :(:(

Good luck in the tests Mark... go out there and kill em!!!

I'm predicting a Mark Waugh 100 in the 2nd test. :)

Gonna be strange to see an Australian side play without a Waugh in the side, I can't remember the last time both wouldn't have played. Can remember times when one or the other haven't played because of injury, but not both.

I think Mark Waugh (perhaps both brothers) ended up being dropped because the selectors are picking a side they hope will win the World Cup. It the side they want for next year. If it was a sidee for now, Mark would stay in, probably both brothers would. The next world cup wont be won by the side that won the last one.
Sad, but not unexpected to see him go, but hopefully it means we will get an extra couple of big performances in tests out of him.

He's had plenty of chances (too many) and it's no surprise he's gone. I hope he comes out blazing in the tests, but I have a sneaking suspicion that he'll drop his bundle and cave in.

He's taken money from Indian bookmakers

Should have been kicked out of the game in disgrace years ago

absolute scandal this person still has anything to do with Australian cricket at all.

shameless corrupt cowboy on the make.

Doesn't care about the game, doesn't care about his country, doesn't care about the team. doesn't care about Right and Wrong

total arseh*le

What, 12 years not a big enough chance?

Well, considering he averaged 80 in ODIs in 2001 and then had one resonably bad series where he averaged 25 or 30, you would think that most players would be given the chance to show some form, especially after such a long period of service.

Taylor was.... So were Border and Boon at times late in their careers...they seem to have forgotton that.

I don't agree with getting rid of people just because they are old. If they can do the job then they should do it. Proven performers are much harder to find than players with little or no experience, or poor records in ODIs.

Yes, we need to continually look to the future, but exchanging a large number of experienced players for youth has never been a successful solution in any sport and leads to failure.

At his best Mark Waugh is the difference. In my opinion should of been retained for this series cause he might of find some forward. This decision could cost us a world cup

I dont agree with keeping ex-champions just because of things they did in the past when its obvious they arent doing a job. Just because hes scored 8000 runs and done this and done that doesnt mean he should be kept forever

RUBBISH!!

No big suprise - the selectors had to drop him after his performance this summer in the VB series.

Watch out Warne, you could be next on the chopping block!
