Skip has just been delisted by Hawthorn. Unlike the vast majority of 190cm plus players that have been on the market or delisted thus far, I'm a bit surprised he got the bullet. I thought he was quite servicable in the games he played this year. It must have something to do with the fact that the Hawks, now with Hale, had up to seven ruckman on their list.

Should we have a look at him as a back-up ruckman?

(They also delisted Simon Taylor, but he is a spud of the highest order.)

I just read on the Hawthorn board that Skipper may have been lured into the draft by another club with the promise of more opportunities. I thought his delisting was odd.

What about Carl Peterson? There is no doubting his talent. Under the leadership of Aaron Davey I reckon he may be able to really prosper at the Dees. Or is it a case of him already failing at two clubs, so not worth trying?

It's not a bad idea, but from what I've heard, we'd have to find him first. Apparently he is MIA.

Peterson? No, we already have Aussie, Maric, Tapscott, Jetta, Bennell, Hughes who can all play that same role.

I prefer Ryan Gamble, has been delisted at Geelong and decent marking forward.

Skipper would fill a need.

The Hawks supporters are genuinely miffed at his axing. That is a genuine sign that he may be of value.

I think Gamble was made to look good by the brilliant players around him, much like Prismall. Moreover, we have a number of players who fulfil the same role as Ryan, and in my opinion, they do it better as well.

As such, I would pass on him, same goes for Peterson.

Skipper, however, might be worth a look, at least while the likes of Gawn and Fitzpatrick are developing.

This. :thumbsu:

Gamble is a hack, do not want.

Guys im for discussing on ways to improve our list, but honestly, Skipper, Gamble and Dowler were given the arse for a reason. Stick with the draft picks.:thumbsu:

Wayde Skipper is the only player I would be interested, using Jamar as an example of how ruckman can take a while to develop.

He fills an immediate need and is serviceable player.

Wouldn't be to shattered if we chased Skip, didn't look awful in the games I did watch of the hawks this year, in particular one in Tasmania. Smashed the packs hard, tackled, went forward and had a presence about him. That being said, doubt that he would be levels ahead P.J or Spence, stick with the draft I reckon.

Been thinking about this more. Surely if Hawthorn were going to get rid of Skipper he would have been on the table for Cheney on the following Monday after they snared Hale - they would have had the whole weekend to think it over. You'd think they would have preferred to keep pick 52 and trade a player on the out anyway.

Leads to 2 possibilities:

1) At that point in time they hadn't planned on getting rid of Skipper and he may have subsequently walked.

2) They had planned on delisting him and he was put on the table (for Cheney) and we rejected it in preference to a pick upgrade which suggests Skipper logically won't be on the radar as a PSD priority - if he had we wouldn't have been able to use pick 52 in the first place due to less space.

In any case, thread now belongs in the redraft a reject thread lol.

rumor on our boards is that he asked to leave so a club possibly has eyes on him??

i rated him, along with many hawks supporters it seems but given our abundance of ruckman i think he wanted to leave to get more opportunities (im assuming hale and renouf will be our 1 & 2 ruckman now, plus we have some youngens in bailey and lowden) but think skipper is probably better then a number 3 ruckman for many teams.

maybe we did a sneaky with skipper because hale was snatched? It could happen :p
