Guys,

Some of you may or not be aware that he is currently on Fox 8's The Recruit.

This guy was touted as being a top 5 pick back in the 2011 Draft but bailed out and returned back to his community in Billuna.

He is a freak of a player who stands at 193cm, but one that will be a project type role with a lot of hard work needed to be done here.

He has made his first steps of wanting to become an AFL Player by leaving his community and is currently playing for Beaumaris where he has kicked 9 goals in the last 2 games.

This would be a long shot but do you think that we should take a punt on him as a Rookie? I have also noticed talk on the Sydney Swans fan site that they think the same.

Cheers,

Agreed as stated in OP there is a lot of Water to go under the bridge.

I believe that he may have already turned the corner in the fact that leaving his community in Billuna to play in Melbourne is a big enough step.

Kram 81 with the winner of the show I believe they go into the draft but its whether a Club wants to draft them.

Dont get me wrong im not saying we should pick him up with our first pick, could be no harm in using one of our rookie picks on him though if he is still there?

He kicked 46 goals in 4 games and outdone Fevola in the same game a number of years ago.

A lot of upside but plenty of risk.

No way. He has no idea what he is in for at an AFL club as it's probably 100x more intense than what he's experiencing at the moment.

The show is a joke (yet enjoyable viewing), however, interested to see how that Johann comes along seems to be the only one with any decent talent.

I watch the show every week and enjoy it.

However I got the feeling during last night's show that his comeback in the 2nd half against the Police side was staged for television purposes.

After all, given his attitude and work ethic, how is he still on the show?

He admits to playing footy to get girls only, and hates hard work and exercise.

Did you see him take the rope climb test last night?

He hates the recovery sessions at the beach because the water is cold and he might get attacked by a starfish.

He got homesick at the draft camp and came back home after 3 days.

I think every team is allowed to have a Ashley Sampi, Josh Simpson, Austin Wonameri, or Liam Jurrah once in a while.

We had our turn, however if he wants to train with us over the summer I have no issues with that.

It's 'reality' TV, I'm not sure that you could really learn that much one way or the other about the potential of players on there being drafted and making it in the AFL. Half of it is probably set up or staged to try and make it better for a show.

With regard to The Recruit. The winner can get selected by any club and they get listed as a B type Rookie (international).

Yeah the rope climb and the beach recovery were damming on him agreed, and when he said the reasons of playing footy!

The reason why he is still on the show is because if he puts his mind to it he is better than any of the people that are on there now!

I jsut think that there may be a slim chance that he has turned the corner aka Walters... He has moved to Melbourne to play for a club - which i think is the first sign that he is serious!

Who is he playing for?

Has he? Why are they still banging on about how far he has come etc. (I know he is actually from a very remote community originally)

Suppose it makes for good TV.

The show states that the winner will receive a guaranteed AFL contract, that's not the same as entering a draft lottery.

Entering the draft wouldn't be much of a prize anyway, considering anyone is allowed to do it.

Nope nope nope. I'd rather we put the effort into Simpson and I don't think the club has the time or ability to be looking after 2 homesick kids. This guy is playing footy for all the wrong reasons. From the show so far (i haven't watched yesterday's episode), sure he looks like he has some freaky ability, but he doesn't seem very fit & able. And my god does he whinge a lot.

There are a few guys on the show that I think we should look at it we get a chance. Wagner obviously seems a bit of a gun and we could do with more forwards. Same as Smith even if he is a bit of a d*ck.

He's on the show because of his talent and the fact that he could still become 'draftable' through the course of the show. Voss has removed players that simply won't ever be considered for the draft.

That and entertainment purposes. Most people would say Waylen is there favorite player, the longer hes on the show the better for the viewers.

I think playing for Beaumaris is a big signal of intent for someone who left draft camp after 3 days. Even though it's reality TV, I think just having him in Melbourne for an extended amount of time has helped him out more than anything an AFL club could do with an unlisted player.

If he can show that he can continue to work hard from now until the draft, I would have no problems picking him as a rookie.

From what I've heard from him so far, it sounds like he needs to change his attitude before he considers the level required at AFL.

Do not want.
And especially for a ross lyon coached team. Not a good fit here.

Waylen's spare tyre isn't staged.

He has talent to burn, and unfortunately that's exactly what he's going to do with it.

Will never play AFL.
