Hopefully Menzel becomes an elite half forward and Milera spends a lot of one-on-one time with McLeod.

When Francis went early I wanted H.McKay but very happy to get Wayne. I thought he would go before HM. So all is good. We drafted 2 flexible position players.

Absolute legend. To hard to go back through my posts but Ive said it all along that we were going for this lad if Francis wasn't there - Everything about Wayne is exciting, hopefully we can look back in 5 years and see one of the best players in the comp - he's that kinda player.

I'm very cynical but IMO Port are not operating the indigenous academy for altruistic purposes but rather for their own self-enhancement/pr and with the ultimate ulterior motive to being allowed to have first rights at a discount(a la the NSW/Qld academies) at the draft to whomever they channel thru that academy. eg a "Milera" in the future

He's slight at 77kgs but assume he'll be over 80kgs by season start.

You would never get gore for 53, yes he was drafted in the 50s but he has shown quite a bit of promise in his first year of senior football and he was contracted. If we were trying to go after just Gore, Geelong would never accept a pick above 40.

Little off topic, but I don't see why we should set up an Academy. We have the SANFL.

The reason why the Northern state AFL sides have their Academies is because their state leagues are so poor. They also lure juniors to Aussie Rules who would not play the sport. The AFL funds these Academies as well, it is essentially their way of funding junior footy development in these states. There is no way the clubs can fund these, especially Brisbane who are $12m in debt.


We already have the SANFL in place to do this. However I would love to see a system where us and Port have first pick on SA talent, based on the F/S alignment between the two AFL clubs here. Then other clubs bid on them as is the case with Academy and Father/Son players.

Personally don't see why we should spend money and resources on Academies when we already fund the SANFL.

Considering Port hasnt produced a top 10 draft pick in over 13 years now, their ability to develop young SA jrs is terrible. The sooner the magpies jrs are taken off them and given to other SANFL clubs the better.

Milera looks good has plenty of X factor, consistency may be his issue, if he plays consistent like Eddie will definetly be a winner!

I haven't seen Doedee play at all, I wasn't pleased when we took him either but I can see the reasoning behind by we drafted both but I wish we got Bonner and Doedee rather than Milera and Doedee. Or Bonner and one of Collins/B.Mckay/Snelling/Rioli

Our player development now is way better than when we selected second round rookie Petrenko in 2007. On top of that Milera is way more talented than Petrenko.

Toumpas was ruined by Melbourne and would have been fine at another club.

You are behind the times ... SANFL, in their wisdom, told Port two years ago that they will not have Junior teams playing in 2015. Port do not have Junior teams now......
