Player Watch Wayne Milera

Or to put it another way - a thread about a key footy player for our club on a forum about our footy club.

Every draft time we go over and over about what we think of players based on a 3 minute highlights package - pulling them apart and getting disgusted at the recruiters based on guesses. He's now been here a while now, we've all seen him play, let's chat about how we think he's going. The club rates him as a massive talent, I rate him worthy of his own thread.

And the overwhelming tone of this thread is very positive. Impatient? Yeah maybe, but is there anything wrong with being interested in chatting about our top draft pick based on the actual experience of watching him?
I've already shared my thoughts on this subject earlier to say how I believe it's unreasonable to expect a player to have changed after a handful of games, and you've already agreed that it might be impatient, so I don't think I need to add any more to this exchange.

Perhaps, but you can only have so many blokes in there, and I'd rather Greenwood in the mix than Milera right now.
I disagree.

The way we play our football for the last few season has seen a shift to speed and precision. Where we've probably been let down in the past is that final delivery to the forward line.

Milera absolutely enhances that ability.

Having more players with speed and precision passing skills is exactly where our focus should be.

Not since the days of the fab four have we had multiple players that are able to move the ball and deliver well into the forward line.

He averages 1.3 inside 50 a game and 0.3 goal assists per game. But hey, if you wanna deal in fantasy I have some Disney DVDs to sell you

An interesting comparison today by Tredrea in an Advertiser article comparing McLeod/ Cameron 50 game stats.

Both are very very similar. The one that did catch my eye ,and one we should be mindful of with Wayne ,is that both only had 2 and 1 20 disposal game in their first 50 games.

It's such a dumb, fanciful, lazy comparison. They're not similar at all, apart from both being lightning fast.

McLeod was quite a deal more skilful than Cameron, was heavier, stronger, had much better hands and a lower centre of gravity. He was much more balanced than Charlie.

Cameron plays a lot more like Michael Long - which is great, Long was a great player in his own right, but Long played nothing like McLeod.

McLeod played as a forward pocket and then was moved to a running spot off half back in 97

Don't think there is much useful to learnt by looking at his first 50 games before he was let off the leash

Yeah this.

Heatmap says he's spending more time behind the centre square than in front of it this year. I'd say that may be just to give us another quality kick in the back half, especially with someone like Kelly working back there.

Yeah but my reply was to an argument that he provides quality delivery inside 50 which clearly he doesn't. Also, heat maps are relative. His possession count doesn't really warrant bright red.

But that was in reference to your post about preferring Greenwood.

We've been complaining for years that we have two many inside types and not enough class on the outside. I was disputing your suggestion that Greenwood is a what we need over milera because he doesn't provide these skills.

Surely you can see that milera kick is a weapon and his skills are on another level to Greenwood?

When Milera stops squibbing contests I'll be more of a fan

Back to the two's for Wayne. Not sure what is going with him but he needs to develop more than one string to his bow.

I was initially exited but soft as butter with zero work ethic. Bad couple of years from Ogilvie.

He's a rake of a kid in his second year. We needed outside players because we were overloaded with inside grunt. Finally get one and people unload shit.

Great work.
