We Can Afford Chris Judd

Judd is going to want to come to a club which has potential for the future, and can offer him a lot of money. We satisfy both criteria.

1) We have a very young list, with young players (i.e. Neagle, Ryder, Gumbleton, Lee) coming through to replace the older players. The one main thing that was wrong with us this season is a lack of class through the midfield. Enter Chris Judd.

2) We use 100% of our salary cap. Judd would want 1million a year plus. We CAN afford that:
Hird $1m$: half on veterans' list: $500k
Lloyd: $800k: half goes onto veterans' list: $400k
Lucas: $450k: half goes onto veterans' list: $225k
Campo: $350k

Thus, losing only Hird, we have $1.475m free on our salary cap from this year. Then if we delist/trade a Peverill, MJ etc. we can afford to offer Judd $7.5m over 5 years, and match Carlton.

Because our younger players will be fine with their current salaries? Is Hird on a mil a year? I highly doubt that.

Agree with SOT4.

Giving Judd such a deal will result in us possibly losing some of our young players due to not having enough to pay them when they ask for more.

It would be stupid to offer him a 5 year deal anyway because he'll be 25 next year and is very injury prone.

Fletcher is already on our vets list.

The only way you can get a player off the vets list and onto your primary list is to delist them and redraft them.

We'll have Lloyd and Fletch on our vets list next year.

Don't forget Stanton has signed a new deal for more coin, Winderlich likewise.
Ryder and Dempsey as well.

That said, we can afford him anyway.

Why the hell are we arguing about what positions Ryder could play at WCE when he won't be leaving our club!

Good point.

Also this thread is about the cost of Judd, not the players.

Thats why threads are merged because all that ends up happening is you get 3 or 4 of the same conversation going on in irrelevant threads.

And you get so many threads started on topics that already have multiple threads started.

Ok back on topic.

We can afford him now, but what about later when our younger players become, hopefully, the players he want them to be?

If the reported 1Mill + per year is true, it is a pretty big slice when you have a quality list

By that stage Lloyd, Lucas, Fletcher, Michael, JJ, MJ, Campo, Heff are all gone. They're replaced by the minimum wage draftees, and the Lovetts, Daveys, Jettas go on to earn the bigger bucks.

If you wanted him, you frontend the hell out of his contract so say we have 1.2 mil free next year you pay him 1.2mil, so that in 2 years time he only needs 600k. Also, I doubt his wage will be a consideration in the club he chooses, unless they offer him something like 1.2-1.5mil a year so he would only cost 800k a year IMO.

you'd think we'd learn from 5 year deals. mark mecuri anyone?

I think 5 year deals are things of the past now, unless your richmond

i think judd might be an exception. he is 25 now and if he can keep up even 75% of his previous form he will play into his mid 30's 5 year deal would be ok. with that said i wouldn't want him if it meant trading gumby or ryder
