Sorry guys, but there is no way we can take the high ground here and say that Lloyd should be suspended, have the book thrown at him, or anything like that.

For the last week all we have read on this board is of Buddy's innocence and how hard done by he was by the AFL, and now people are on here baying for the blood of Matthew Lloyd. Sorry, but that is so hypocritical that it makes me embarrassed for you.

If you support hard, physical footy, then you should support Matthew Lloyd walking away from this pending charge. Of course, if you're an unreasonable, one-eyed idiot - the sort that is incapable of taking a step back - then by all means scream for his blood.

After last week, I think the AFL has really painted themselves into a corner, and there is no way that they'll let Lloyd play after a hit like that, but personally, I would've liked to have seen both Lloyd and Franklin free to play after their incidents.

For all the talk about the Hawks fighting the AFL for "the good of the game", there seem to be quite a few willing to abandon that cause this weekend.

And... fire away.

Great post and I agree with everything you've said here. I'd be hoping Lloyd is free to play next week but it seems that bumps like Lloyd's and Franklin's (which I actually like in the game) will be outlawed from the game and he'll miss next week at least :(

Disappointing season from the Hawks but I'm fully expecting you guys to bounce back and challenge for top 4 next season. Hawks are much better than this season would suggest. Good luck in 2010

Agree with the OP. Sadly allot seem to be doing it. When it first happened I was dirty on it, but I watched the replay and it was not as bad as I thought. After supporting Buddy all week, I am going to do the same for Lloyd and I really do hope he gets off despite Franklin getting 2.
On the other hand.....Changa and Ryder should both be rubbed out.

You don't really believe that? :D:thumbsu:

Most definitely.

Sewell had his head way down for seconds retrieving the ball.

Buddy...90% of contact to body, 10% to head

Lloyd...100% to head

twice as bad. 4 weeks

This sort of thing would get weeks BEFORE this years rule change, let alone after.

Cousins did not have his head over the ball like Sewell did.
Lloyd also lined Sewell up from 20m away, he was always going to go for it.

edit: Cousins also didn't end up with a black eye.

Sorry but Lloyds seems to have more intent than Buddys to knock out the player. He deserves more.

Consistency is all we could really ask for. I am hoping he gets off - if does, there's still hope for the bump.

But I severely doubt that he will. I just don't want people flip-flopping and proclaiming complete innocence one week, and calling for the hangman's noose the next when we're on the receiving end.

I disagree, and I will explain how I am not a hypocrite.

I have maintained that the MRP's role is to stamp out intentional or reckless violence in the game.

Lloyd's actions were, if not deliberate, most certainly reckless. As such, I have no sympathy for him in the matter I did for Buddy, who's contact could best be described as Negligent - and was done so by the MRP.

That's a fine line certainly, but it is an important one.

No benefit to us so why stress ? Truth be known the bombers would be better off without him.

If they give him 6 or more the blond dwarf might get the political power to roll him

I agree. Sewell had his head down gathering the ball and was taken front on.

Let's also not forget that Sewell was taken off with a neck brace on by the cart where as Cousins walked off so surely the impact was greater.

Lets see, If Lloyd doesn't get atleast 2 weeks, then consistancy by the AFL is non existant. If he walks away free to play, then expect Hawthorn to be taking the AFL to court for discrimination. Kennett and Clarko were very vocal during the game and i don't expect them to keep hush on the issue.

Also McLaren was terrible today, worse than normal dare i say. Doesn't help when you see McGlynn cop 2 high tackles then gets pinned for holding the ball. Absolute disgrace

Believe that and you might as well believe that the tooth fairy visited Buddy.

Poor Season from the Hawks - little boys running around thinking that they are more talented than they actually are. Meanwhile Coach Grumpy should concentrate on tactics instead of barracking.

Hawthornland isn't as tough as it thinks it is. ;)

Your kidding, Lloyd was told to do that. Yes he was. Your kidding yourself if you think he wasnt the sacrifcial lamb today.

I just wish that we would more often sacrifice a player like that to turn the game.

That hit finished us once and for all.

The main difference is that Sewell had his head over the ball and therefore his head must be protected. THAT rule has been around for quite some time. Therefore the bump will be deemed reckless (remember McGlynn on Burgoyne last year). Cousins took on the oncoming bump/tackle and the resulting bump was negligent.

Quite a big difference.

To back up my statement , Lloyd is not 100 % fit (limited finals impact
), career could be over and took one for the team against our most dominating player of the game at that stage.

What can you say about that sort of commitment??

You don't really believe that? :D:thumbsu:

Well, if you compared how I felt for the few hours following Buddy ironing out Cousins, then no :p

But I think the knee dropping onto him right after was what really got me riled up with that one. After watching the replay a thousand times, I'd have been happy for it to be a free kick and a reprimand. If he got 2 weeks, I'd say Lloyd gets 4, 3 with a guilty plea.
