There is a heap of negativity going around about the club at the moment, so just to be different here's a positive spin on our prospects for next year... I've taken into account the worst case scenario of Thomas and Shaw both leaving (which may or may not happen).

My point is that our best 22 is still more than competitive, in fact I would expect significant improvement. For the sake of this exercise, here's what our best 22 might look like:

FB: Sinclair Brown Williams
HB: Toovey Keeffe Sidebottom
C: Beams Swan O'brien
HF: Macaffer Cloke Goldsack
FF: Blair Reid Elliott
R: Grundy Pendlebury Ball
B: J.Thomas Seedsman Young Witts
E: Fasolo, Lynch, Dwyer

Whether or not you agree with the 22 is besides the point. I'm not sold on Witts yet, or Reid as a permanent forward for example, or what we do with Maxwell... But lets move on...

From that side, I can only see one player who's output you would reasonably think may decline which is Ball (purely because his body may not hold up), but with a full pre-season my guess is he'll be better than he was this year. Some might argue Swan, but I doubt it based on the way he finished this year.

The rest you would expect solid improvement from (Grundy, Seedsman, Fasolo, Thomas etc) or at least a continuation of their current form or return to something near their best (Swan, Pendlebury, Beams, Cloke etc).

Add to that the guys I haven't included that you would expect to be seriously pressing for selction - Kennedy, Broomhead (I was really impressed with his VFL performances this year), Martin, Paine, et al. One or two fringe players generally have a 'breakout' year and cement their place as well...

As far as I know there is almost nobody that won't complete a full pre-season. Another massive tick.

I know every side would look at their list and expect real improvement, and yes injuries and individual form play a huge part, but looking at that 22 you would expect us to play finals next year and it's far from outside the realms of possibility that we can finish top four - especially if we can use the trade/FA period to add some KPP depth either forward or back.

Sorry mate but this is a complete waste of time. The delistings have not been completed and we have no idea what sort of trades or draft picks we are going to get. Why bother until we know the final make up of the side?

Who from that side will even be looked at as a delisting? There won't be wholesale changes to that team from trades.

Just trying to bring a bit of positivity to the board and get start some conversation that isn't related to rumours or slagging the club.

Don't be sorry. Sounds like you could do with a hug?

Backline is way way too small. Reality is we need another second tall forward. Reid needs to go down back

Stop putting Reid in the forward line.
This is silly. Weeks ago we had multiple, heaps of posts that Reid should be a permanent forward...

Completely missing the point of the thread.

Oh well, I tried...

Back to bs trade rumours and not-so-insightful club slagging it is

To answer your question we would need a 2nd key forward, fully developed ruck man and outside runners to contest for a premiership. This is probably a year or 2 away.

Throw in Kennedy, Broomhead, Crouch, Sheed etc and that 22 looks far more talented.

Most of the negativity is not due to the names on paper. The names on paper look very good. To me coaching is becoming more and more important in the AFL and I think that ours are a long way from being the best.

Don't worry, Vossy will fix that ;-)

I am all for positivity but let's talk about stuff that we know about now. The 2014 side will be different to this year. As I said...waste of time. Oh and I do not need a hug.

Are you people kidding? That's an amazing best 22, though i would go fasolo over goldsack. With a good preseason, a better run with injuries and a bit of team cohesion, i'd back that side every day of the week. So young too.
It's only gonna get better from here.

Our team is set to be traded. I wouldn't be putting names in positions just yet also Toovey won't be back for round 1 so you'd better find someone for that position right away. Bound to get injuries over the off season and nab cup too. A full strength team always looks great on paper but there is a very unrealistic chance we will be going in with absolutely no injuries.

So amazing it lost to North Melbourne and Port. Back to back losses. The backline is terrible. We leak goals to small forwards and now tall forwards like a sieve.

Can anyone in that backline kick out? We wouldn't clear a ball out of defensive 50 from a behind.
Sinclair and Williams butcher it. Toovey will be hindered from his knee. Keeffe gets caught with the ball more than anyone and Brown fails to contain full forwards. Great backline that.Premiership defense.

So, these blokes highlighted, who a lot of them were atrocious this year, are key members of this "amazing 22"?

Give it a spell

Toovey definitely won't be right first up and will need a year to get back in to it so pinning any hope on him is just stupid. See Ball and Keeffe this year.
