Recap at a glance:
  • Harley Reid has signed a two-year extension, which keeps him at West Coast until at least the end of 2028.
  • He still has one season left on his rookie deal, the new extension kicks in for 2027.
  • Cal Twomey reports that the deal could reach up to $2m per year if Harley triggers all incentives (e.g. this is not a base $2m per year deal).
  • This is a straight two year extension, with no player option for a +9 or anything similar.
  • Get a big dog up ya, Victoria.

Amazing news!

On the other hans I can't believe i watched 48 minutes of the Agenda Setters for literally 12 seconds of coverage on this. Embarrassing

Not sure why everyone is celebrating. We wanted 3 , or 5 and we landed on two after all this time. This celebration is premature

It just dawned on me both Williem Duursma and Harley may leave or request a trade during the same trade period. It will take the heat of things if they leave together.

William is contracted 2028
Harley is contracted 2028.

They both leave 2027

NVM stayed for 2 year at saints. Are we all thinking he is staying long term. No lol.

It's great he's here for two more years atleast

Geez I'm not even this negative lol.

Negative post of the year award goes to you.

So had a browse of the Hawks thread, and judging from the deleted posts it's not like we were covering ourselves in glory. If the reverse occurred we'd also happily ban them. Some was a bit over the top and they are allowed to amuse themselves with saying we sure are partying hard for a one win team.

Would rather we celebrate, brag and gloat here rather than antagonise Hawks fans, many of which are actually pleased we retained Harley Reid.

Still, we should definitely tag The Big Dipper until he shows up here again with receipts egg on his face.
Nah let's gooooo

Congratulations to the Eagles, this is a statement of intent as it looks like Harley is going to put a shift in for the rebuild and maybe beyond and this is a signing that probably now sets the culture for others to sign on...hard to overstate just how important it is:thumbsu:
Thanks. The good thing from our point of view is all of the young talent have extended way ahead of time. The young crew sound like they have really bought in.

Thats how it started for us in our rebuild. Soligo and Rachele put pen to paper on very long deals as a sign of faith (both vic lads). Since then we have signed on long term many of our best players and also brought in some quality free agents. Get it right and it will turn. I realise the crows have won nothing yet but we do look to be on the right track..you guys might be 2 or 3 years behind where we are now

Of course the narrative with Vic fans/media will still be that he’ll go “home” once this contract’s up. But surely if he was ever gonna leave, it would be now – after a one-win season, “worse than Fitzroy”, all the media noise, 20 y.o. with entire family back in Vic, etc. In three years’ time he’ll be even more settled; more mature, more of a leader, the face of the club, all the sponsorships he could ask for, and we’ll be on the way back up with a good young core around him. Plus money won’t be an issue – we’ll be able to match any offer Vic clubs throw at him. So if he’s not leaving when things are at their worst, why would he leave when they’re only getting better?

This is just huge. Gonna be so fun to watch the come up.

I suspect the only reason he does leave is if things are not getting better.

He hasn't shown his face since Owies has proceeded to shit the bed on a weekly basis

I must say though, I do miss reading his posts
Just wait awhile, this is around the time of the year he comes out of retirement when a club begs him to help with the draft one last time.

That was hilarious. Hope someone gets that couple minutes recorded and posted on here.

Paraphrasing he said Harley loves being at the club, loves playing for the club, loves playing under and has a great relationship with McQualter and his management were also both glowing of the club, the list manager, how the club's handled the situation and the negotiations, a cordial back and forth but at the end of the day Harley always wanted to re-sign here
Been saying for months that Pyke won the Adelaide Street Fight with Harley's manager, today just proves it

Yeah makes no sense to stick around for another 3 years when there was an easy out this year.

Only thing I can think of would be not being able to get to his preferred destination through lack of assets, but if that was the case, I can’t see how that changes in 3 years and why not just run the contract down next year?
