He's got the job. Never know what the outcome will be but he seems to be a hard working and determined bloke. Has worked f'n hard to get to this level. Good on him. Assistants still to be added around him. Could turn out bad or great...coaching is a tough gig. But whatever the case, he's a Melbourne man now and because of this:

Welcome Mark! You have our support. All for one and one for f'n all.

Bring on the next 3 years!!!!!!:thumbsu::thumbsu:

When I look at this guy's face his eyes scare the shit out of me. He has a look about him that just says 'if you don't run your guts out and tackle like a bull then I'm going to murder you in your sleep.'

I can see this guy lighting a fire up in all of them. Good Times ahead I say.

He does he have those eyes that if he stared at you long enough youd admit to something you did wrong 15 years ago.

Very impressive first interview, but most impressive was the way Malthouse talked about him.

I love the comment that he just wants Melbourne to be the hardest team to play footy against. He and Viney will really toughen this list up, and if we can get Craig he'll have the boys fitter than they have ever been.

I know this isn't relevant to the role he leads today but it's my one and only Mark Neeld story.
1987 on the school bus home the biggest mad man public tech school bully you can imagine living on the Bellarine Peninsula starts up as usual like he has for the past few years. He's now in Yr 12 and quite a unit. The new kid on the bus in his first few days hasn't said a word (Neeld). The bully starts cracking noses half way down the bus and Neeld casually rises, takes about ten steps and grabs the bully under the armpit and lifts him up and over about four sets of seats and places this bloke on his ass and says "sit down clown" - the only three words we ever heard him say but F#@% did we feel safe for the next 10 months.

Good luck in the job Mark.

lol very funny Mark Neeld story above^^^

Please treat this man well, I do not want to see a Dean Bailey scenario with him.

We love him down at Collingwood.

Are you serious midnigh toker? You had a bully on the bus that regularly just went up and down punching people in the head?

Seems a little bit.... strange.

Yes mate, 6 to 8 different schools on the same bus with the kids coming from anywhere between the top of Leopold hill right through to St Leonards made for a pretty volatile mix considering the rivalry between each town and their footy clubs. The bully ended up a mussell farmer who is still living in Portarlington dealing with his Bipolar/schizoaffective disorder.

Apologies Melb people for taking the thread off track...

I'm curious.......as a coach Neil Craig was being bagged before he left Adelaide. Now he looks like he's coming to MFC as director of coaching it's like a miracle transformation - all of a sudden Neil Craig is the man. We've just appointed a new coach, so shouldn't we let the dust settle for a few days and make sure a Neeld /Craig combination is actually the best for MFC. There might be other options Neeld/?

Absolutely pumped!!!

This guy was the hottest property in football, and we landed him! :thumbsu:

Also I just want to laugh at this myth of the MFC needing an expecienced coach.

Would you really want Rodney Eade or Mark Harvey being in charge of the club? That would have been a disaster.

And let me tell you the difference between the appointments of Dean Bailey and Mark Neeld -

Only the MFC wanted Dean Bailey.

Every man and his dog wanted Mark Neeld.

GO DEMONS!!!!!!!!! :D

I think tap_my_scott has made a return...

Welcome aboard Mark, firmly believe you can be the man to take us to the next level.

Looks like a young Rutger Hauer. So he is ok in my books.

Would everyone agree that Mark Neeld should be given a proper chance to succeed..that means the back office guys must let him run his race. Hopefully part of the deal was that the coach is allowed to coach without everyone else sticking their noses in.

If you get the name 'Mark Neeld' and you shuffle the letters around, add some, subtract some and substitute some you get 'Norm Smith"

Hallelujah! The Massiah has returned.

No pressure Mark.

No apology necessary mate, interesting and humurous story (beside the bipolar thing).

I must admit right off the bat the talk of being the hardest to play against all over the ground instead of the usual "getting games into the kids" sounds much more positive. To be fair, Bails had to do exactly that with the list he inherited, but it sounds like Neeld is happy he has a list he can start getting results with right off the bat and doesn't need any more "building experience" time.

The advantage he has as far as I can see it from his previous role as defence/midfield coach of the Pies is that he has had the time to analyse our team and knows what he thinks our weaknesses are. More to the point I would say he has a plan to eliminate those weaknesses and mold the talent into a team instead of a group of individuals with promise.

I am really looking forward to next year, its going to be a long off season.

DL.
