Says Sinclair Run a 2.90 Over 20m and they said that was Quick, What would you call Rounds 2.82 Last Year Result?

I think Rounds was 2.84...

It is hard to read too much into his speed, though, at only 69 kegs... He probably owes us 10 kilos before he makes his debut, and this should see his speed drop somewhat.

Won't make him any less hard though... I don't mind him for the small defender role to be honest, as someone said, even at 75-79 kilos he is a bit small for pure inside mid.

Not if it is 10kg of muscle, if anything it will improve his 20m time and effect his endurance/agility.

Getting bigger makes you slower is a furphy unless you get fat then you will get slower.

No, it isn't.

Getting bigger does make you slower, as the muscles need to more power to shift the greater mass. If we assume that the mass increase is more than the power capacity of his legs, then he will lose speed, unless a fair portion of the mass is added to the legs (the main drivers of speed in the body).

I think it will be upper body size that Ben will need to compete as an inside mid in an AFL midfield, which will also be detrimental to agility (as the weight will be distributed higher on the body and therefore lift his centre of gravity).

Yep, then let's leave him as a fast outside player who is at least strong enough to win his own ball. We now have a dizzying array of potential 'inside mids' anyway to add to and succeed O'Bree- Ball, McCarthy, Beams, perhaps Sidey, JThomas, Francis, Blair. We have almost thrown two drafts and more than a million dollars at the problem area.

I suspect same with Rounds. He looks like a Bulgarian weightlifter on hyper, who thankfully nevertheless can still move like the wind. Leon did a few seasons ago too (when Willi won the flag); he's trimmed since then and found even better AA form.

Anyone who can give us pace and delivery is very welcome. We've fixed our first 'black hole' in the centre square. Let's move on to our next -speedy run and carry line breaking - without turning everyone capable of doing this one into gargantuans to fight the battle of the first 'black hole'.

That war is over. Let's move on; once we have centre square and then the run and carry black hole battles over, the issue is where to extract and run and carry towards?

Possibly not in 2010 as a first option answer, but as a Plan B option for at least a quarter a game, might be that other big black hole for our team - the corridor.

There be dragons! There be honour and glory! There be mental strength, quite separate to putting Romanian muscle strength on Rounds and Sinclair. Let them run and carry and give them confidence at least now and then to go down the guts to catch defences at least one-on-one.

Good luck, Ben.

Can't agree with this. To play inside he would need to increase core strength & that has little to do with upper body size. Big shoulders & guns aren't that great an asset for AFL footy if you don't have the lower body to match.

True, he will need to significantly strengthen his core to play as a fast inside mid (like Ablett).

But he is 69 kilos. If he gets up to 80 kilos, where is that muscle going to go? He is not going to put 5 kilos on each leg. Core muscles aren't the type to hypertrophy (get bigger) to any significant degree.

So if he does build up his weight to where the coaching staff would want it to be, it will be mostly through the shoulders, the chest, and the arms. And also the legs - but history shows us that the biggest physical transformation from school boy footballers to professional footballers is through their upper body strength and size, as this is generally given no to little work pre elite training (whereas the legs are still worked a bit at school and school football training with sprints, running, etc).

Poor bloke just broke his nose at training.....

Yeah your right guess that's why sprinters are twigs like marathon runner's:rolleyes:.

They all do power lifting exercises to increase their white fiber twitch increasing explosion.

Getting bigger across the body does not make you slower if it is lean muscle getting fat does.

Sprinters are not skinny light blokes, they are powerfully built units.

It is a myth that bigger always means slower.

Endurance and agility on the other hand he will lose.

Not many body builders compete in the 100m Olympic final, either...

Juiced up beach weights and they get too big they can barely move which is not i was suggesting, also i wouldn't put it past a 100m sprinter to be able to compete in a natural body building comp if they desired.

Different weights required for sprinters and they are generally solid blokes, most importantly you have to be quick to start with then right program power lifting would help improve your explosion and top end pace.

Sean Rusling got quicker in his 100m after 2 pre-seasons of weights and he was heavier that is just 1 example.

every footballer is giong to break their nose at some point along the line. Good to hear he has made an impression

Very True and Like to hear that the BIG H thinks he got Skills:thumbsu:

Not so good if he did it accidentally pulling the changing room doors open on himself :D

Thought you were going to say "pulling his jumper over his head!!".
With his frame, this wouldn't surprise... :p

I've watched a fair bit of Sinclair, and also went to school with him for a bit. This kid has serious speed, and some freakish natural ability. Has heart and soul in spades, reckon he could be a serious player for us! Absolute steal, and great work by Hine.

Sounds like you are a Massive Fan. What is the Freakish Ability you talk about?
