We have selected @nicstevenss to join the Collingwood family. Nic is an amazing backline player who reads the ball better than most.

Collingwood’s women’s AFL team has selected Nicola Stevens with its first selection (No. 6 overall) in the National Draft.
Stevens is a key defender who played with Melbourne University in women’s VFL last season. She is an excellent reader of the play, with intercept marks her specialty, and is a very good user of the ball.
Hailing from Pascoe Vale, Stevens represented the Western Bulldogs in the women’s exhibition matches, where she impressed the Collingwood coaches.
Stevens is studying to be an osteopath and away from footy she enjoys water skiing and basketball.
Nicola Stevens
Age: 23
Senior Club: Melbourne University
Position: Key defender
Coach Wayne Siekman says: We are absolutely delighted to select Nic with our first selection in the women's draft. She is the best defender in the draft and she can play multiple roles down there for us. She is a very damaging player off half back that will give us plenty of run and drive and also can play on a key forward and lock down. One of her biggest strengths is her ability to read the ball in the air and take intercept marks.
Defender Nicola Stevens has been traded to Carlton Football Club in exchange for their first, second and third round draft picks (5, 13, 21 overall) in the 2018 NAB AFL Women’s Competition Draft. Collingwood will give Carlton a fourth round pick (pick 28) to complete the trade.
Stevens played all seven games for the Magpies in the inaugural AFLW season. Her trade is the first of a 12-day exchange period between all eight clubs.
Collingwood Football Operations Manager Marcus Wagner said Stevens’ request to trade was due to established relationships she had with Carlton’s coaching panel.
“We respect Nicola’s decision to move to Carlton and continue the relationships she’s already formed with their coaching panel and are pleased to have reached an agreement that benefits all parties,” Wagner said.
“Nicola made a great contribution to Collingwood Football Club and we look forward to using the draft picks we’ve secured to bolster our list with young talent for 2018 and beyond.”
Since they're all on 1 year contracts if a player requests a trade you don't have a choice but to trade them.
